Action Sandals for wide feet - most comfortable (and least heinous)

We’re going on holiday travelling around Asia later this year. We’re going to be doing a reasonable amount of walking so I need some (what my brother refers to as) action sandals. Sarcastic b*gger.
Are there any that don’t look like your local hairy-toes vicar would wear? I’d like quite a chunky sole if possible. Any ideas? Thanks!

Teva hurricanes! Really comfy and great for lots of walking. I’ve scrambled up and down all sorts of trails over the years in mine.

Those Keen ones are horrific.

Teva do their originals with a chunky sole now

If you Google flatform sandals that should bring up similar ones

It depends what you want. The Teva have no top foot support. The Keen ones are wide. My keen ones have a more substantial sole than the picture I sent. I am a serious walker.

I’m definitely not a serious walker but there will be lots of sightseeing so we’ll be on our feet a reasonable amount. Thanks Flossflower but those are the sort I’m trying to avoid. I want practical and comfortable but not too ‘serious walker’ if you know what I mean! I do appreciate the post though 🌻

I've got Fitflop Remi with the back strap, walked for miles and miles around Australia on 6 different trips and they are still going strong

Sorry, forgot pic

I have walked around Asia and Europe in Birkenstock sandals - the normal ones. They are designed for walking - not hiking up a mountain but lots and lots of sightseeing including the Great Wall of China. They are also fashionable.

I forgot to say that I’ve got wide feet!

Action sandals is the correct term. I like Sorel, I’ve got several pairs of theirs. They are more stylish and suitable for walking around a city than scrambling up a hill. My best action sandals ever were Hi-Tec. They were very comfortable and hard-wearing and they lasted for years.

I got Rieker sandals last year, found them excellent for walking.

OP, thank you for being polite about my choice. 🤣
I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t just wear trainers. Going up steps in India and Thailand I have needed some sort of protection for the top of my foot. You will probably need trainers anyway so one less pair to pack.

A friend of mine tells me often that Decathlon walking sandals are very comfortable.

I would also have a covered pair of shoes for eating outdoors at night, or dirty/mucky conditions. I got a very alarming bite one night on my foot wearing sandals and am still horrified wondering what bit me, 20 years later. If you're going somewhere on the first day that has markets you'll also be able to buy a knock off pair at a bargain price once you get there.

I bought a pair of adidas terrex two years ago. They've done serious miles, been in and out the water and remain both comfortable and in good shape. Lots of colourways too.
