Facial puffiness/swelling - photos included

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been dealing with random episodes of facial puffiness/swelling, and I can’t figure out what’s triggering it. It’s really frustrating, I’m hoping someone here might have ideas or suggestions!

When it happens, the swelling lasts for at least a week, sometimes longer. My lower face becomes visibly swollen and puffy, and it completely changes how I look and it makes me feel a bit rubbish

I’ve attached a couple of photos to show the difference. One is when my face looks normal, and the other is during one of these episodes. My weight and age are the same in both photos, though I know the lighting is different - this was the best comparison I could find. Even with the same lighting, the difference is always obvious.

I’ve tried increasing my water intake and cutting back on salt, but it hasn’t made any noticeable difference.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas about what could be causing this or how to manage it?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know how people are saying there is no difference. There is a noticeable difference. The one on the left looks a much older face due to the nasolabial wrinkles.

Your face is at a different angle in the photos , different lighting , different make up etc so it's hard to see a true comparison. Perfectly normal to get fluid retention sometime during your cycle.

Because she's smiling in the left photo.

@FriendlessJo no not changed anything. I started taking collagen supplement two weeks ago but that’s probably the only new thing, and it’s been two weeks.

in regards to my cycle I’m around ovulation (I feel I have more bothersome symptoms around this time than my period).

@dontcomeatme thanks for sharing. Yea I was so disappointed. I feel I try to keep healthy, eat on, exercise a little and get in front of my health. But I feel the nhs these days just react when it’s too late over preventing things in the first place.

Do you eat carbs? I get puffy face when I eat bread etc as carbs store fluid. You look totally different on the photos
