How do I go about getting a prom dress for DD?

No idea where to start, really. She has a fixed idea of what she wants, which is a bit different to majority of dresses, but has not tried on anything so doesn't really know if she'd like it. Where do you go to try them on? What are best websites once we have an idea? Is buying online not a good idea?

Maybe you try hocogirl.com, there are hundreds of prom dresses you can find at a great price.

My daughter is not even slightly interested in fashion but has firm views about what she won’t wear. I have impeccable taste 😁. I bought 4 dresses off asos (sanity-checking them 1st with her 7-years older sister). All fit, she liked 2, loved one of those 2, didn’t like one and hated one which in hindsight was a little old for her. We kept the one she loved, returned 2 and her older sister loved the one she hated and took that as a consultancy fee!!

TKMaxx?

It depends what she wants to wear. One of my DDs wore a Boho joe Browns dress one wore a shiffon short dress one just wanted to wear a plain black dress that you could wear for any occasion. Some friends wore trousers or a suit. What ever she is comfortable in.

Thanks so much everyone. Yes, I love vinted and been looking but worried about fit and then not able to return (at least you can return online). The dress attached is what she likes (but higher on the boob!) but in red. It's very 'ball-y' but she likes simple, classic, conservative (TOTAL opposite of me) and she looks very similar to this girl (olive skin).

DD said she'll ask her friends where they've gone for theirs (2 have got theirs but the rest haven't) - but I know they spent at least a couple of hundred, which we wouldn't be doing. Spoke to her about trying on different styles and she is pretty open to that. Hopefully we could get an idea of size and shape from that.

what height and size is she??

How about this one in size 10?www.vinted.co.uk/items/6140406793-deep-red-satin-prom-dressball-gown

Do you mind me asking...What search did you put into Asos?

Thanks guys. I posted in Jan! We have since been to try on dresses in Fonthill Road which was fun - but dresses still 300 for the nicer ones. Only a couple of shops seemed to have proper prom dresses in. Got an idea of style that suits, current fashion etc then bought off Vinted. It juuuust fitted but I'm just hoping it still fits in July as she's had a bit of a growth spurt and gone from 32C to 34D 😳 plus a little bit of height for first time in several years. Focusing on exams currently so not going to get her to try on again till they're over and then probably massively panic that it doesn't fit.

They have a category of “evening dresses”. They all were wearing long/black tie.
