HELP im a scarecrow!

Glittersmoke · 02/01/2025 16:11

I need desperate help with my dry fluffy frizzy mass of scarecrow hair
i look like Hagrid but not as tidy
its driving me mad! Nothing I try is hydrating enough I’m always left with a tangled mass of waves that looks horrible and all I can do is plat it or bun it! Today I had it cut from my bum up to my bra strap to try to help but I’m still stuck. It’s incredibly fast growing and thick! Takes 3-4 box’s of hair dye to colour it which I do as infrequently as possible to try to avoid damaging it more! Nothing I have tried works! Please I’m in desperate need of a decent shampoo and conditioner to start with!

Thanx everyone
I really would have never said I had curly hair and no hairdresser has ever mentioned this! So that’s new! I’ve also never taken a photo of the back
if it before haha
I will go try some of these things. I know my hair has been cut with absolutely no style but it is what I asked for so I can look into fixing that but again it’s more money and time.

Definitely curly!

Aveda leave in conditioner in a green bottle saved me when I had my hair permed.

Chocolately · 02/01/2025 21:52

It looks lovely OP.
It's possible you are over washing it a bit, and I would try a serum spray on it. Otherwise, gorgeous!

TiramisuThief · 02/01/2025 21:56

That does look a bit wavy to me!

I have similar textured hair, I used to straighten it but I've decided to lean into it.

Got lots of layers cut in so it's more of a shag shape, got an undercut put in to take some of the weight away & I scrunch in an air dry cream most days and leave it alone.

Styling it takes a bit of effort but it looks good

Hi @Glittersmoke You need to get...

SALTWATER SPRAY!

Game changer for me. I started using a new hairdresser - for the first time after 4 years of no hair cuts - last Autumn... My hair was a frizzy mess! She advised me to use saltwater spray, as I have curly/wavy hair. It goes soooo lovely. 😍Curly and bouncy and gorgeous. Like new hair! Try that @Glittersmoke (My hair was a bit like yours before, but way worse! really frizzy with split ends!)

You can get it from Boots, and Amazon, and from most hairdressers.

Watch The Blowout Professor on YouTube, he has transformed my hair!

One of the biggest things that has helped me is sleeping with a silk bonnet (mines actually satin because silk is not in the budget) with my hair in a loose satin scrunchie. I wake up, take it off and can brush through my hair and it still looks really good.

Lovely hair but I think you are washing too often

Try the Garnier deep treatment mask. www.boots.com/garnier-ultimate-blends-cocoa-butter-3-in-1-pre-shampoo-conditioner-hair-mask-for-dry-curly-hair-10307040?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc--PLAs_HeroCompare---_-pmax_beauty__gg_shopping__hc-haircare___pmedia&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAA-AdmwR5PuOp--Q7Cetc0VvKjeRjd&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8_DAm4TYigMVWZeDBx1GEQwbEAQYFiABEgLI6PD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I use it like an every day conditioner and when I rinse leave some in your hair, use curl cream or gel as needed.

@SabreIsMyFave
oh no ! Now I want to try the Salt water thing too, which one do you prefer?

Good question. I got mine from the hairdressers. I will just get the bottle and let you know which one it is - but tbh I think they will all work!

midgetastic · 03/01/2025 09:00

Curly hair is great as once you have a basic good cut you can keep it going for ages yourself as the curls hide all kinds of dodgy cutting - so it can be cheaper once you know how to manage it

chickenlettuceunderbacon · 03/01/2025 15:56

It's clearly curly hair that's been straightened into submission, hence the frizz different textures. Also, the length is weighing it down which again compromises the curl. If it was shorter, it will be curlier. My hair is similar. (I straighten mine and have a keratin treatment which eliminates the frizz. )

I'd start simply and smother it in coconut oil, then wrap in cling film and leave overnight. Wash out the next day and leave to dry.

roseymoira · 03/01/2025 23:13

I can't believe you didn't know you have curly hair! Get some curly hair products and a diffuser, it will come up lovely

stayathomer · 03/01/2025 23:20

I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!! Shea moisture range is pretty epic or the herbal essence blue bottles. I’d also recommend using an oil (hask is really cheap but amazing!) and once a week leaving a moisturising conditioner in for about 20 minutes. Always use a heat spray too.

Bfmamma · 04/01/2025 11:52

I also resemble hagird on a good day. I hate it. Sometimes specific curl products work, other times it does back to a frizzy mess. I've given up. Chopped into a short bob a straighten it.
For some reason, when it's short the humidity outside doesn't effect it as much as when it's longer. Though I'm buggered if there is a hint of rain.
