Testosterone as part of HRT

Literally no idea where to post this so that it gets replies, as the menopause board doesn't seem that active.

Those of you mid 50s on HRT lucky enough to have Testosterone prescribed as part of your treatment for low libido, where do you apply it, how much and when did you start noticing a difference? Were there other side effects, good or bad, you noticed?

I'm not mid 50s and started testosterone age 47 for low libido and it's been a godsend. Given me some energy too and libido is great, marriage is better and I feel fantastic. Took a while to get the dose right but currently make one sachet last 8 days (it's a right faff!) had to get a specialist to initiate and have regular blood tests but now it's on repeat and the best thing I ever did. Only side effects were headaches when trying to sort dose

Namechangetheyarewatching · 01/01/2025 10:11

I do the same as above, 1x 8 days
It's about a pea size, I put it on my belly

Libido is much better

ToucherGouterPlus · 01/01/2025 10:39

Thank you both. After how long did you start noticing an improvement?

Did help libido but not back to original levels. But definitely helped tiredness. No other side effects for me

Mine only took a week. I remember it clearly as DH couldn't believe his luck! Did settle after a few weeks now libido is steady and I'm not rampant S I was after 1st week. Energy levels increased after a few weeks but I'm not sure if really testosterone or just me feeling like myself again in bedroom and closer connection to DH

I use it but sadly feel like it doesn’t work for me, but I’ve also been recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia so think that probably cancels out any benefit!

SongSungBlues · 01/01/2025 20:14

My GP prescribed it for me a year ago, but I really don’t get on with it.

It’s a faff remembering to use it at a separate time to the Oestrogel, and in a different place on the body. Having to work out the tiny doses from each sachet is a pain.

I had a minor improvement in libido, but the downside was chin acne and very sore breasts, weirdly enough.

So I’ve stopped taking it.

Delatron · 01/01/2025 20:30

I’ve only just started but already seen an improvement in libido. My issue is remembering to use it. I have a patch for oestrogen and always remember the progesterone pill at night but I’m struggling to remember to put the cream on in the morning.

Hoping to see some improvement in energy levels when I get in to a routine with it and Christmas is over!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 01/01/2025 20:35

I’ve used it for a year via a private menopause clinic, not sure if it has helped really! I guess I’d find out if I stopped!

It goes on my thigh and my thigh is very hairy as a result!

Lifelover16 · 01/01/2025 20:36

I used for a year - half a pump of Tostran daily. Improved libido slightly but no effects on energy levels/brain fog. Added to that I developed quite severe male pattern hair loss ( a common side effect apparently) so chose to discontinue it.

Delatron · 01/01/2025 20:36

Yeah I’m not looking forward to the hair growth. Trying to work out if that would be better on the thigh rather than have a hairy belly!

Namechangetheyarewatching · 02/01/2025 09:42

I use it on my belly and it's not hairy, I put hrt gell on my inner thighs and a pea of test on my belly.

Took a couple of weeks to kick in
