Would love suggestions for a warm, stylish, long (perhaps to ankles) coat.

Open to puffer or classic wool.

budget £400 - £600.

TIA.

I had a lovely ankle length coat from whistles about three years ago. There should be 20% off maybe even more in the Sales about now anyway it’s really nice and it dry clean as well. Lots of them dont. They come back like a crisp packet.

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/12/2024 17:00

Hobbs. Cos. Reiss. Maybe start with John Lewis as they do multiple brands.

Floisme · 30/12/2024 17:27

If I was after a long, wool coat and had £575 I'd be starting with this: (other colours available):

@Floisme that Harris Tweed coat is gorgeous! I absolutely do not need a new coat, either... I will make do with my Harris Tweed jacket.

Almost40Nooo · 30/12/2024 17:44

Love the tweed!

Will look at Me+Em.

I need something practical, smart, warm, comfortable. Basically the Holy Grail.

Same here quirky!

I also love this one op - wasn't going to post it as it probably doesn't meet your brief but what the hell.

L K Bennett have some in the sales, £500 down to £250, full length and belted. I tried a pink one on yesterday but can't justify it.

Check out Karen Millen’s sale - I wanted the Italian Manteco full skirt in Ecru or Oatmeal but it sold out! Some fab value on there as well.

Almost40Nooo · 30/12/2024 18:22

Ah glad someone mentioned Karen Millen.

Not a brand I’d typically go for but quite like this (black for practical reasons like slurping coffee on train, but the tan is gorgeous).

I also quite like this Holland Cooper one, although totally different to the above. Worried it may be too warm on tube.

Would love to know thoughts!

Ooh the Colenimo is my new favourite - I do like a raglan shoulder on a coat. I've been saving up for one of their jackets and I'm nearly there, provided I stay away from all the sales.

BangingOn · 31/12/2024 13:56

I’m on the hunt for similar, although definitely wool rather than puffer. I’ve ordered a few from the Selfridges sale, two AllSaints and one Zadig & Voltaire. I considered stretching my budget for a gorgeous Toteme coat in the Net a Porter sale but it doesn’t have a front fastening and I think that would annoy me too much.

If you want something very classic then Max Mara Weekend have a couple that fit your brief at a little over £600, either on their website or John Lewis.

Max Mara is having a sale and they have several cheaper (but very similar quality as the expensive line) coats which are in your price point - wool coats with belts. I think it’s the Studio line

This is the link to the ridiculously over budget one.

Kindred of Ireland

I can’t believe that anyone would pay £1550 for that abomination. It looks creased and badly made.

I totally agree, it looks like shoddy workmanship and cheap fabric 😵‍💫

itsstillmehere · 02/01/2025 09:58

I can see getting trapped by that bow on the Tube 😂

BangingOn · 03/01/2025 12:37

@Almost40Nooo reporting back on my multiple purchases. The Zadig & Voltaire pale grey coat is stunning, really beautiful fabric and looks great on. It’s too short for me though as I need something ankle length. I’ve re-ordered the AllSaints Blaise coat in a smaller size as it seems to run large, but the length is perfect and I really like the style.

Have you ordered any yet? If I wasn’t so obsessive over the length I’d definitely have ordered one of the Max Mara Weekend coats in the sale.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 03/01/2025 14:32

Max Mara is the first thought for coats but even in the sale there's almost nothing at £500.
Max Mara coat sale.

I have a camel coat and a black coat from the Weekend range from a few years back which I think were in the £7-£800 range and a navy 101801 icon, which never changes in style but increases in price every year. They're a joy to wear.

The Hobbs Livia coat.cones in navy, camel.and Malbec purple. £379. 100% wool, feels like cashmere.

I have one of these from a few years ago, £150 in the sale. I don't think it's special enough for what OP is after tbh.
