No/low buy January: S&B edition

Is anyone up for a no/low spend January? Couldn’t see a thread so thought I’d make one. I know in previous years there’s one thread throughout the year but people lose interest so I thought one thread per month would be better.
I’m planning on doing a complete no buy for January. Who’s joining me?

Bought handcream- in my defence this is a medical not a beauty as I fear my poor litttle paws are going to crack up and fall off .

M&S sale rail got a cursory glance but I didn't look .
Temptation Averted

Managed to survive a trip to the Trafford centre without buying any new clothes

Well done @70isaLimitNotaTarget and @PinkDreamer - good job!

I've started going through my cupboards, have found at least four 'may as well be new' outfits to wear next week for a change.

I bought a dress ...but In My Defence , I spent a lot of last year trying and failing to replace some of my ancient summer dresses and the frocks made yet another appearance then went back in the loft for winter .
I want some stretchy skater styles , no zips , not tight round my waist , drapey and floaty and No Bloody Tiers .which were everywhere last year .
Couldn't find them , mine are mainly M&S and Tu (Sainsbury). with some nice ones from White Stuff or Monsoon.

The dress I bought was a button up shirt dress but when I tried it on , it did not flatter .
I calmly wrapped it up and returned it .

I very rarely buy online if I'm not 100% sure but as I;m on LowSpend , I didn't want to blow £50 on a dress I'd begrudge .

I found a bargain pair of Serena Bute trousers and a Kitri shirt dress on vinted

The parcel has gone missing somewhere in the depot so at least that's one way to avert any shopping 🙄

Looking like a pretty successful January! Will get my money back at some point in February 😂

I am doing also dry January and it’s so easy by comparison! I want beauty and clothes every day. I have ordered a few bits from Next clearance but nothing fitted, so not really failed on that front. But I have misbehaved on Lookfantastic. I think it’s hard to cut out all the joy at once,

coolcahuna · 25/01/2025 07:38

@CChorizmo I'm finding dry Jan way easier than this as well ! I'm doing no spend with a friend for accountability. It's stopped me from making several purchases I don't need! I'm scratching the itch by selling a few bits on vinted and having a look in charity shops.
Managed not to buy anything new this month other than hair stuff which I use every day and q CC cream I also use every day so justified it to myself!
Going to keep going.

I did have a lapse last week, but it was an emergency. We got caught in a downpour on holiday and I ended up buying a dress in a local boutique so I wasn't dripping around in a soaking outfit all day.

I didn't need the two extra dresses I bought though 🤦🏼‍♀️

Are we doing a February Thread ?
I did pretty well in January
I have ordered (Feb) a lightweight jacket as there is the gap in my wardrobe
M&S jumper ( jumpers are my weakness )

That can be my Valentines present from DH . I am decent that way , saves him having to think Grin

YearsofYears · 02/02/2025 21:36

My only wobble were three small charity shop purchases (black trousers, bracelet, skincare). Pay day was difficult as I did look at a few items but definitely don't need clothes although possibly need a canvas tote bag.
It has been freeing to think do I need this and realise that I usually don't.
I'm definitely continuing and feeling inspired to reach my financial goals.

RomainingToBeSeen · 02/02/2025 22:23

I'm trying hard to keep going in February. I think it's within my self-imposed rules so I ordered some nice shower gel and body lotion with some vouchers that I got for Christmas and it'll definitely get used.

I did cave and ordered some bits from M&S for a work event but ended up wearing a dress from my wardrobe that I hadn't worn for ages and it felt really good on. The M&S parcel is going back - I didn't need it and the fact that I haven't even bothered trying some of it on probably reflects how little I needed it. In the past I would have hung on to it just in case and it would become part of the 'embarrassing never worn with labels' section of the cupboard.
