What footwear with his knitted dress ...

... at a xmas family gathering in a house where shoes are taken off (i've nothing against 'shoes off' - but it's trickier when you're dressed up a bit)

Would you just go bare foot?
Would you wear tights with it and just be in those?
Black flip-flops? (my version of slippers)

I think I’d have bought some little black velvet slippers. In the absence of a shopping trip, I’d just wear tights, maybe with some sparkly socks on top.

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 23/12/2024 12:29

My MiL is shoes off too. They all do slippers. I usually do black opaques and nothing on my feet. But my dresses/skirts are chosen to be long so I get away with it.

Needless to say, both my tights and my feet are clean!

I agree with Remus, I would have got some little black velvet slippers with your dress. Might still do before Boxing Day, it’s a great idea.

I've got till Friday.

I like the idea of little velvet somethings.
I can't get to any shops now but I'll have a look on Amazon.

Well I guess it depends on how relaxed you are with your family. I'd probably wear my black fluffy sliders or a pair of slippers. I hate the feeling of just tights so I might wear footless tights and flupflops or barefoot.

SharpOpalNewt · 23/12/2024 12:32

It's a lovely dress. I'm not sure any indoor footwear would keep the same glamorous look unless you have some fancy slippers. Depends on what the flooring is like too.

My inlaws' floors are freezing cold so I would probably bring furry slipper boots to wear with tights and forego the glamour for my feet!

Laiste · 23/12/2024 12:35

I have some black fluffy sliders which you would think would be the perfect thing ... but they make a massive squelchy noise when you walk in them 😳

I don't care at home but i can't squelch round a house party 😂

The flooring is mostly hard and cold with a big rug in one room where i will try and stay.

Honestly if it’s a party , and you want to look nice, I’d not be wearing footless tights 0r socks over your tights, those are never good looks.

agree with the pp who said, find some lovely little velvet slippers to wear, or go barefoot if the floor isn’t cold.

Usually even at grocery stores they have the ballerina type knitted slippers in black. They are easy to fold up and carry in your handbag.
