How to fix a LOOONNNGG jumper

I have a lovely navy high neck jumper with wide sleeves and new. Bought it, stupidly didn't try it on and realised too late it is ridiculously long. It is a heavy wool and i love everything about it except how stupidly long it is. Is there a way to fix this? PS I can't roll it up and under or belt it as it would be ridiculously bulky.

Can you post a couple of pictures?

I would machine stitch a line at the top of the ribbing and another further up. Cut off the excess and rejoin. If it is at the ribbing edge it should not show. Either way I think it’s important to keep the original hem.

Or try on, fold up to desired length and stitch. Cut off excess.

Surely that will only work if elastic thread is used?

What’s the fabric? Man made fibres probably easier to deal with than wool knots.

If it’s an expensive jumper, try talking to a tailor.

If not, by all means try cutting off the excess, leaving a deep hem area; fold over, maybe twice depending on bulky ; use bias binding on the hem. But be prepared to have a straight hemmed jumper with no ribbing to give shape.

Wear with leggings and a belt? Or if you're daring enough just tights?

You can do a "cut and shut" on a jumper, I've done it. If it's quite a chunky knit similar to hand knitting. A tailor or someone who understands knitting/sewing could probably do it.
You basically unravel some rows and graft back together invisibly with some of the unravelled yarn.

Thank you for the replies! Didn't think I would get any or many!!! I am so glad something can be done. Looks like I will need to find a knitting person to do a 'cut and shut' on the jumper. The option to wear as a sort of short dress with leggings or tights is not for me sadly. As much as I would love to I'm not aesthetically built for it. 😪 It is a heavy knit so really is not an option for a belt anyway. I will get it out later and upload a picture. Meantime...Merry Christmas everyone.
