Trainer advice for teen ds 17 college student

Hello wise ones - hoping I can draw on you those of you with mildly fashion conscious teenage sons. My son has asked for dark trainers for college/every day. He usually wears white AF1s which seem to suit his feet. I have thought about some black ones, but are they a bit ‘school shoe’?
Would Adidas Campus shoes in a black/dark grey stripe be acceptable for a young man who likes to fit in but is not wanting to win any style awards? He usually wears jeans and a sweatshirt/hoodie so is fairly smart-casual in the rest of his style. Doesn’t go for joggers or anything grungy. Thanks ☺️

I can only go by what my own DS (18) likes. He also has always worn AF1s. He wore various white ones casually, and for school he used to wear black ones.
He now wears Adidas Spezials. My DS is incredibly fashion conscious-so much so that I won’t pick his clothes as surprise gifts anymore 🤣

At his age, I’d give him £50 so he can go and choose his own.

Don't choose your 17 year old son's trainers.

£50 wouldn't buy you one shoe.

I also wouldn't buy my teenager any trainers.

Give him the money and send him out shopping.

Mine is still into Converse but everywhere is different. What's trending in one town is passé in another.

I'd let him choose his own. I have college age ds one likes Adidas - the other Onitsuka Tiger and another Nike.

When I'm spending circa £100 for trainers for I want to get the exact ones so they choose their own. They'd much prefer to do that than I have me choose. I may get the brand right but the colour wrong.

My trainer conscious ds chose these:

Adidas Campus but had to be this colour

In the past they have worn Spezials, Sambas, Nike Dunk. Every Christmas there seems to be a latest trainer to buy.

Thanks all, @Lykia those are the ones I was thinking of.
i mean, I get what you’re all saying and I wouldn’t dream of trying to choose my 15 yr old anything as they are very picky. But my son has asked me to get him some (and whatever he gets he will have the receipt and is welcome to change them). Really just want him to have something to unwrap as his main present was £££, and I can justify trainers as he needs them anyway. Maybe he is an unusual 17 yr old in that he’s not that bothered, as long as he’s not embarrassed by them!
