That's lovely! Are you going to wear tights? If so, I'd do black ankle boots, maybe with a heel. Like these: Camilla Black Bromley Chelsea Boot – Rocket Dog UK or Rocket Dog Women's York Black Boot – Rocket Dog UK. I'd personally find them more comfortable than heels. You could also go for slingback heels like this ASOS DESIGN Strut slingback kitten heeled shoes in black | ASOS which would also probably be fairly comfortable due to the low heel.

As the dress is presumably not from this season it could do with something completely up to date to enliven it (and make you look ‘cool’)

Either a pair of Mary Janes, flat or slightly heeled, as you prefer, or some boots. These would be the sort or thing:

Grenson Western boots

Or these:

Cos kitten heels

What type of shoes do you like to wear? I'm assuming you'd wear nude tights. If so then you can make the dress more festive/party wear with a contrasting shoe - a bright red or a metallic. Most black shoes, especially a low heel would make the dress look like office wear.

Definitely not from this season!

What other clothes/dress would you suggest which are more modern but still festive? I rarely go out these days so haven't shopped for this type of clothing in so long,

There’s nothing actually wrong with it. (I may be mistaken but had the impression there was an earlier thread where you were thinking about what to wear? But there are so many similar threads right now.)

this is the only dress I have that I like

struck me as both sad and curious - surely no one buys dresses they don’t like? But if you haven’t bought any for a while I guess your tastes or requirements might have changed?

What other clothes entirely depends on how much you want to spend and what you want to achieve with any garment, within the relevant context. Sorry, that’s longwinded but eg:

Do you want to spend £60 with the aim of being the best dressed person in the room?

Do you want to spend £600 to blend into the wallpaper and be entirely unobserved?

Or whatever?

Standing at the door waiting for Waitrose so - a few random photos, from the last couple of months on my phone, of outfits I’d like to wear or see at Christmas gatherings right now. (You may need to tap the photos for the full picture.)

Tbh I would treat yourself to something new and sell that in a couple of weeks on Vinted or e bay for a few quid.

stripeyshutters · 14/12/2024 09:40

That fair isle jumper in the massive size with the wrinkled skirt 😂 thought mine were too big for me but no I'm just suoer trendy 😂

Or …

Do you really think a 2000 pound outfit is a realistic suggestion for someone with an Oasis dress ?

stripeyshutters · 14/12/2024 09:51

@Sarahhills I've actually googled that dress and it is much prettier than your post suggests. Your own style will determine if you want some chunky boots or a party shoe. What is more you?

RosesAndHellebores · 14/12/2024 09:57

It's a very nice dress. I'd wear it with a block heel Mary Jane, probably on black patent, that I could wear again and again. Clarkes have some nice ones with a double strap.

ANagsHead · 14/12/2024 10:42

Do you really think I’m suggesting the OP googles the unidentified photos and rushes out to buy the exact outfits?

Do you really have nothing better to do on a Saturday morning than try to sour a perfectly good natured thread?

Seriously?

77Fee · 14/12/2024 10:48

I would also suggest boots. DMs or anything you'd get the use of long term.

I got some from geox and they are incredibly comfortable.

Sarahhills · 14/12/2024 11:01

Thanks everyone for the responses,
Ive just had a baby so when i say its the only dress I like I should have added that I can fit into right now!
Thanks for the suggestions, mary jane type shoes would probably be best and a more comfortable

Also OP, knee boots are back in and would look great with that length

ANagsHead · 14/12/2024 11:13

Something like these?

& Other Stories

Or these?

Zara strappy Great shape.

Zara patent

rozziee · 14/12/2024 11:17

100% a knee boot.
Here are some examples of that sort of dress styled with a winter knee boot.

@ANagsHead lol I remember your recent recommendations from Batsheva. Made me chuckle for days after.

OP the dress is nice. As long as you are feeling comfortable in it, you'll look great. I'd maybe go with an ankle boot or Mary Jane's with a wee bit of a heel on them

Silvertulips · 14/12/2024 12:27

I went out last night and nobody had those tent dresses, woman wore knee length similar dresses we had boots sparkly sandals sparkly pointed toe heels -

As the dress is presumably not from this season it could do with something completely up to date to enliven it (and make you look ‘cool’)

Utterly snobbish and unnecessary.
