Day dresses - a step up from Fatface, Seasalt and White Stuff

I'm mid-forties, 5'2", size 14-16. I want to treat myself to a couple of day dresses, and I'm wondering if anyone knew of companies that were similar to the above, but one step up cost-wise?

Me & Em
Ba&sH
Rixo

It's also always worth having a look on the Outnet. You can put in your size and price range and see what pops up.

Is Boden too much of the same for you?

Whistles? Hobbs?

AdmittowearingCrocs · 12/12/2024 22:28

Roman Originals Petite range has some lovely dresses.

Readytoevolve · 12/12/2024 22:41

Is Cos not just for really tall people?

ANagsHead · 12/12/2024 22:42

No.

(Obviously I wouldn’t have recommended them to the OP if they were!)

Ha - you got there before me

Looked for the link and then got sidetracked by the reductions and ended up buying two dresses I had had my eye on. Expensive thread this one!

Roman Originals Petite range has some lovely dresses.

They aren't really a step up from Seasalt, fat face and white stuff though.

Roman do have some nice things of a similar quality if you are selective (I have a couple of really lovely summer dresses) but there is an awful lot of tat to wade through that is much lower quality than the brands mentioned.

OP I am in a similar place and there seems to be a bit of a gap. It is quite a big jump to Hobbs, Whistles etc. Have you tried Boden or M&S Autograph? They might be too close to the brands you want to step up from but they are at least a bit "smarter" in their look.

My nicer day dresses are from:
Rixo
Ganni
Whistles
Reiss
Hush
Mint Velvet

online only now but Mistral has lovely dresses and some are in organic cotton

Londonmummy66 · 13/12/2024 12:04

Aspiga - their cord dresses have quite a bit of stretch which akes themm really comfortable to wear.

Justine Tabac - small company clothes made in the UK and uses some beautiful fabrics. She's in her 50s and a normal sze and the dresses are modelled both by her and by her 20 something daughter so you get a good feel for how the dresses fall on a normal person rather than just a tall super slim model.

I pretty much live in dresses! I like Toast and Brora, also Wyse.

Mytholmroyd · 13/12/2024 12:05

This is so true! Not a step up but very useful and cheap. You just have to avoid the horrendous garish prints etc. I buy a few work dresses from Roman like this one every year:
