Birkenstock - What size? I am normally size 6 standard fit

Just like, if you wear normal 6 shoe size, what size do you wear in Birkenstock? I find it so confusing as some people say to size down and and some say size up 😑 I need to order online as we have no stores near where I live.

I'm usually a size 6 and I wear 38 normal (they also do narrow). They fit like my feet have gone home! I feel like there is some kind of measuring information on their website though, that you could use before you order anything.

But my mum needs to size up, because she has long toes! Her toes went over the front in her normal size, so she has a bit too much space in the heel of hers.

MabelStark · 12/12/2024 16:31

I'm usually a 6 too and I buy a 38. Absolutely love my Birkenstocks and couldn't be without them. 😁

whirlyhead · 12/12/2024 16:32

Their website tells you to order several different sizes if you aren’t sure and just send back the ones that don’t fit. Bit expensive doing it that way but I just did it for my husband and their returns process is very simple.

He ended up with a size smaller than normal working best whereas I wear my normal size so who knows!!

Birkenstock are awful these days. Quality is gone. Sizing all over the place. Customer Service non existent. Returns policy shocking. Just don't buy them.
If you do decide to buy footwear don't order direct from them - maybe order from Office or a Brit-based store so you have some consumer protection. Use a credit card or Pay Pal as it's possible you won't get your refund if you have to return them. I only got my £130 back because Pay Pal made a reverse payment.

Such a shame that a fabulous brand has come to this...

I am a standard size 6 and I take a 6 in Birkies

AnyFucker · 12/12/2024 16:51

As in a 39, sorry

Icarus40 · 12/12/2024 16:54

Size 6 and wear a 39 in Birkenstocks

Ineedaholidayyyy · 12/12/2024 16:57

I've always found them true to size.

aSpanielintheworks · 12/12/2024 16:59

I'm a size 5 and have a 37 in Birkenstocks.
I tried the 38 (5) and they did still fit, but my feet didn't hug them like my 4's do.

ExquisiteDecorations · 12/12/2024 17:01

I’m a 5.5-6 / 39 in most shoes, but 39 is too big in Birkies and all mine are 38s. I have the normal ones as I have wide feet.

Bitchillywillytoday · 12/12/2024 18:15

I have worn Birkenstocks, many styles (and colours) over about 30+ years and always loves them. Can walk for miles, great fit, lasted well after many miles of walking in them and so on.

However since they sold out and became a 'fashion' item and did many collaborations with designers and the like sad to say they have gone to the dogs.
No matter where you buy them from they are not half as good, even from main stockists which I went to in Germany this year.

My thoughts and experiences of newer pairs.

The base is still made in Germany, however the uppers are not as well made and the quality is very poor compared to previous pairs. Suede uppers are 'floppy' and not good quality, the cut of say Giza, I have had different widths across the front of the toe post on the same pair making it kind of fold over on one toe but not the other, bad manufacturing. I have had cracking of the cork where the leather is folded over, creases in the leather which looks really unsightly in certain colours. The sole just not lasting as long and worn down quicker than ever before (I am not heavy on my feet). The metal part of buckles an the toe post sort of going rusty or dull, never also had that before.

Customer service appalling, so much I got in touch with the customer service in Germany who did nothing and passed it on to customer service in Spain (???) who were at least pro active and sent a replacement for a silver Giza that came away after about 2 months.

So, sad to say no more.... but you would be a size 39!

Rant over

ImNotThereAmI · 12/12/2024 19:06

I agree that they are not what they were. I’ve got 38 and 39 in the same style so sizing does differ. Quality not great anymore either

Smokedcloud · 12/12/2024 19:35

38 shoes & 38 narrow in Birkenstock

poppym12 · 12/12/2024 19:40

I usually buy a 39 in boots (cos socks) and in trainers depending on style. Always a 38 in Birkenstocks. I prefer regular width even though I don't have particularly wide feet but I've got some narrow ones and they're fine too.

I can't wear the closed toe ones at all as they're too slanted for my weird left foot second toe which is longer than my big toe.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/12/2024 19:56

I wear a size smaller than usual, standard fit. My feet are wide-ish.
