Help me work out the name of this kind of coat!

I saw a lady with a lovely coat today but it was too bloody cold and windy to stop her and ask where it was from.

The best description I can give is that it was almost a hairy sort of wool, I think..kind of a bit shiny, with a bit of a...pile?! I'm aware this is a terrible description! What fabric is this?!

It was definitely not bouclé/teddy or a shearling-type thing - it was more like (and this won't sound attractive...) sort of black pony hair 😳 but nice, obvs

Hobbs has previously sold similar sounding coats, but they do shed and don't like handbags rubbing against them ( they can go bald !)

It didn't look like fake fur, and didn't have the pattern of astrakhan. I think it was mohair, although he alpaca does look slightly similar, @Fozzleyplum, albeit with a shorter pile. It had a nice, slightly oversized shape, side pockets, and I think a funnel-ish neck - I wish I'd just asked the lady although I also have about 265 coats too many so maybe for the best all round...
