Is Balenciaga cancelled? (TW: child abuse)

I really want a bag from Balenciaga, I've wanted one for about 20 years now! And I can finally justify the purchase, however, when I mentioned it to my friend, she said they were cancelled and said one of their campaigns showed children in a sexualised way. Obviously, I don't want to support a brand that is so disgusting. What is the consensus here about that particular campaign? It seems to have completely evaded me and I think it's because it happened when my firstborn was born!

Eh, my takeaway from it all, a series of unfortunate events where no one seemed to question some bad creative choices in an ad campaign. Incompetency and poor initial PR response rather than an evil cabal of paedophiles at play. But the internet responded as the internet does and it went full conspiracy satanic panic on it all for a hot minute. Was it 'cancelled', yes, briefly, Kim Kardashian distanced herself alongside some other big names attached to the brand. They're all back in the fold again now and no one seems to really care all that much. But maybe you run in circles that only entered the news cycle when it was at full panic and have written off the brand even since.

More concerning for the brand these days is that it just isn't all that relevant or at the vanguard anymore. That's much scarier in fashion land than being cancelled. My advice, get yourself a secondhand City bag, they're still a great design and of much better make than what they're putting out these days.

Make your own mind up

(I've no idea about their fashion status, the brand mainly seems to come up on mn when it's produced something outstandingly weird or ugly for people to laugh at.)

I can't believe you are listening to your friend in this way and asking on here for people to tell you what to think. Do a bit of research about the campaign and make your own mind up!

Not for me, nor for most, as every time I walk past their store, it is empty. However, I loved Balenciaga under Nicholas Ghesquière, so I would seek out one of his bags, possibly the City. That said, I do also love the Papier tote which iirc, was designed 2013. As it's over a decade old, I think that's fine too.

Makes me think of Kanye West & which then makes a hard "no" in my head
(I know they separated their connection)

It's not cancelled. I still see people wearing it. It wouldn't put me off.
It was a campaign taken completely out of context and everyone just jumped on the bandwagon.

I am seeing loads of city and mini city bags, so if they are cancelled, people are still wearing. If you’re comfortable buying from the brand then go for it.
