I have just bought the Millie coat... how to style it

I have bought this coat, I have 2 others in different colours on their way as well

But how to style it, I have no shape and its a bit fitted so it gives me quite a sharp outline with a nice waist. I am straight up and down with menopause muffin top, barrel shaped really

I normally wear slim leg jeans, looking more and more out of proportion with my barrel torso!

So when I tried it on it looked really good and smart but my jeans wont look right with it and my other favourites which are wide leg trousers are now too cold but equally I think too bottom heavy?

Plus I wear a lot of black and in the red coat at least I dont want to look like a Chelsea Pensioner.

It does give Chelsea pensioner vibes now you've pointed it out, especially if you wear a lot of black .
Sorry I'm guessing that not what you wanted to read.
What are you other ones?

soupfiend · 02/12/2024 21:40

I dont have to wear black with it, the piping is navy so navy trousers would look good, but what shape

The others are houndstooth check and the other one I cant really describe a sort of grey green tweed, quite dark greyish, with red piping

its the shape of the bottom that I need to put with it that Im struggling with.

I dont mind a Chelsea Pensioner look, I reckon I can pull it off!!

I wasn't aware what a Chelsea pensioner was, I googled it. I'm pleased you weren't offended!
The coat is a great shape & proportion and looks fantastic quality. I might bow out & let the stylish ones give you better advice :)

FeelingJolly · 02/12/2024 21:48

It's giving nutcracker soldier.

Edited

I have to say they look the business on me, really give me some structure and shape and I dont really have 'nice' coats, got tons of suede jackets, a little puffer, couple of rain coats but nothing fitted and good quality.

I might get into the Chelsea flower show for free in it!!

@soupfiend I think you sound great! So many ppl would have been offended, maybe start again...... Without saying Chelsea pensioner ( I will scroll by! Promise!)

😂😂😂

That's a gorgeous coat. I don't think it matters what you wear under it.

KnickerlessParsons · 02/12/2024 23:02

I think you should wear it with black boots.

soupfiend · 03/12/2024 08:28

I might try to wear it today with dark blue jeans and these shoes, might not because we're walking a lot and they're slightly big the shoes so I need something comfortable, we'll see, so Ive probably gone from Chelsea Pensioner, to nutcracker soldier to teddy boy!!

As far as I'm concerned, the whole point of a coat like that is you can wear any old shit with it and people will be too busy admiring it to notice.

It's lovely, I do like a good country clothing store.

soupfiend · 03/12/2024 08:50

I actually got it from a shop in York but couldnt see pictures of it when I was posting last night, they do in fact have a website but it doesnt show the coat properly. The other colours Ive bought are not online anywhere for some reason

I love it. I can’t help though. I don’t think it would go with any of my clothes. It’s so long!

soupfiend · 03/12/2024 08:59

Its just above knee high

Doingmybest12 · 03/12/2024 09:07

I think you could wear it with anything as long as it's big enough to cope with thick winter layers. I like a smart coat looking like it's thrown over casual comfy clothes. I think day to day it's about trying to not look like you are in your Sunday best.

soupfiend · 03/12/2024 09:10

No its quite fitted so its not for going over thick jumpers, it might just be too cold today to wear it as we're walking about so I'll see when I get dressed

I love it!!! I'd prob wear with a short skirt & black tights and flat black boots. Or even dress it down with dark turn up slim jeans & white trainers.

I love a statement coat. Life's too short to blend in 😊
