What to wear underneath a silk dress?

I have a big event coming up next week. Due to peri-menopause I’ve developed a large sticking out bum and am getting a bit of a tummy pooch too. Nothing I had to planned to wear fits properly.
I do have one dress that would look ok if I wore some kind of Spanx underneath it. However, it’s silk and really thin. I tried it with some very lightweight control shorts and you can completely see them through the dress especially where they end on my thighs.

Any suggestions?

Menopause completely sucks doesn't it. I would suggest trying on a variety of things and find whatever you feel most happy and comfortable in. I know it sounds very droll advice, but it is better to think you look a little, damn, can't think of the right word because of the bloody menopause, umm, dated or wishing you had something new, than feeling really self conscious and uncomfortable. You can concentrate on hair and make up and look fabulous. Whilst everyone else is worrying about what they look like, having sore feet from wearing high heels and sucking in their tummies you can outshine them all with your fabulousness!

Would a full slip from Em&Es help to smooth over the underwear give aways?
It surprises me that more women don’t wear a slip/petticoat these days. Offers a smoother line for any unlined thin dress fabric.

Dont wear the dress. Get something that looks fab without trying or you just wont feel confident.

I’ve tried a slip but the dress has a slit at the front so it shows through.
if this dress was lined it would be so much better. I can’t for the life of me remember what I’ve worn underneath it previously but I was slimmer then.

The annoying thing is I think I weighed slightly more previously but my body has changed and this new shape is really difficult to dress because it’s so out of proportion.

It will be almost impossible to hide shapewear under silk.A slip may work but you could end up seeing the waistband u see the dress. I would go with another outfit rather than feel self-conscious and uncomfortable.

Sorry! Cross-post about the slip

I always knew how to dress for my body shape and the menopause completely changed it. Perhaps take an honest peek at what your shape now is and have a look on Pinterest for some inspiration. You may already have something to wear or it might be time, if funds allow, to get something new in time for your party and the festive season.

What about this? amzn.eu/d/3IpayHf

I wear one under dresses so it sucks you in but covers your knickers line.

In the past l’ve raved on here about a control slip from M&S. The ones l have (to wear with your own bra) don’t appear on their website at the moment, but they do have others.

Obviously you would need to get the scissors out for the slit. I’ve no idea how it would fall when cut but maybe worth a try.
