How to style a waistcoat in the winter

I picked up a couple of lovely waistcoats on Vinted - one black one beige - that I wore loads in the summer with nothing underneath either over jeans or wide leg line trousers. Do I have to pack these away until next year or can anyone suggest ways to style them with winter warmth in mind? I've tried a white shirt but it looks too much like office wear for my liking.

Dd wears hers with long sleeve ribbed tops from M&S... particularly nice thick burgundy one with her black waistcoat.

Ah OK well that's good to know as long-sleeve tops & fine knit roll-necks are on my list of things to buy after I binned quite a few last year as they were looking bobbly or faded. I'd completely forgotten about them and now can see this would be perfect so going to order a couple of the M&S ones. Like the idea of a burgundy under the black one.
