Completely bewildered and overwhelmed with Olaplex options

I'm pretty skint so can't buy them all. And they seem to have proliferated since I last tried a few. I have dry, frizzy hair ends with roots that get greasy quite quickly but the dry, frizziness is more of a problem. I've done their quiz but it doesn't recommend all the products that seem to be designed for frizz making me wonder why not. Which are the best value for money? Which can I live without? I'm going to ask for one or two for Christmas.

Number 3. Don't bother with the shampoo and conditioner

I read a review that said no. 6 is a more concentrated version of no. 3. Making me wonder why they wouldn't just upgrade 3 or retire it. Have you tried no 6?

I have. 6 is a leave in treatment. I found it too heavy for my hair type.

I have had a little set like this before which was handy to work out what I liked. I like the hair oil and 3.

I actually love the shampoo and conditioner. I didn't actually get very far with healing damage I did bleaching my hair several years ago, before I started using them.

I use No 3 every now and again, the shampoo and conditioner, and 5 & 6 mixed together on my ends pre drying and styling.

I also like the mask (8?) as a treatment.

Can you ask for a gift set? Smaller versions but at least you could try a couple out.

Personally I liked the shampoo and conditioner, the oil was nice but it gave me spots.

kdramaqueen · 25/11/2024 09:50

I recently read a report that said only the No 3 is worth buying...

DieFrau · 25/11/2024 15:23

I'm even more confused now! The mini set seems like a good idea but they don't seem to contain all of the ones I'm interested in. Has nobody liked number 0? And yes, kdramaqueen - I think I read that initially but then there are so many other people saying differently!

Another one here who loves the shampoo and conditioner. Grey hair here, so I mix it up between the normal stuff, the purple stuff and the clarifying one for occasional use. I need to clear space ... 😂

Does it actually give you a noticeably different result than other similar but cheaper products?

I like the shampoo & conditioner too. And the leave in stuff (no 6?) I ran out and actually notified the difference in the condition of my hair so I've just re ordered.

I use the revolution Plex 3 bond repairer leave in cream and I think it's just as good as olaplex. It's only a few pounds

That's interesting. It can't be the same technology though, if Olaplex has a patent? Do you know how it works? It's very affordable!

I'm not too sure but I think it's a protein treatment that repairs hair internally. I started using it when I was having full bleach every 2 months. Might be worth a try for a fiver

EmotionalSupportPotato · 25/11/2024 16:56

I've not used 0 - I think there's some that were salon only for a while

Really?! And Therunecaster you too? Did it do permanent damage or just made your hair worse the days you used it (if so which ones did you use?)

Olaplex ruined my hair too, such bad condition after, extremely dried out, extremely difficult to do anything with. It took a while of using coconut oil and PK Elasticizer to fix.

I use PK Elasticizer as a treatment beforee shampooing, then usual shampoo conditioner, then I use colourwow dreamcoat sprayed on towel dry hair. I use kerastase thermique heat defence cream and Olaplex no7 bonding oil on the ends to keep them hydrated.

K18 is another that ruins my hair as a leave in, it's ok for a 5 minute treatment then washed out but it's far too expensive for the lack of benefit.

I suppose now is the time to try a little gift set to try them out if you want, black friday sales are probably the best offers you are likely to get. I wouldn't limit yourself to to Olaplex though

I had long hair, hairdresser used it but didn't tell me until afterwards, hair felt awful the next time I washed it, I had large mats which I struggled to work out with conditioner. When hair was dry it was brittle, dull and snapping off, had to have it cut off to chin length and deep condition every week. 2 years afterwards it's finally feeling back to normal after using Keratase treatment shampoo & conditioner throughout. My hairdressers knows not to use anything other than normal shampoo and conditioner on my hair now
