I've been trying to find Christmas PJs for my DD size/age 13/14. Only supermarket type places but a lot of them don't go above age 12-13. So where do you go from here. Women's small?

I feel like this question comes up a lot and I find it surprising because growing up I don't remember a single kids' range going above age 14 and many were age 12. Age 15-16 was for school clothes only but even then most people went to Topshop etc. I'd say most cheaper high street places places like New Look, H&M, or Primark would have plenty of choice - size 6 is probably fine but I'm sure Primark even goes down to a 4 sometimes.

TheTruthICantSay · 18/11/2024 21:31

Yes, I assume you go to adult size small most likely. with DS, who is 13 now, and who is very tall and who has previously been overweight (not anymore) he has had a couple of XS men's items and a few S. now that he's lost the weight, he is mostly wearing the XL kids' stuff, but we've had a couple of men's items like some jeans from Shein or a Nike t-shirt that were mens XSS. I suspect he's moving towards mens Small now though as he's had a growth spurt and is now 5ft9.

I was wondering the same thing, dd is in age 11 clothes, or 146 in Germany, what age do shops stop making kids clothes.

PickleSarnie · 18/11/2024 21:44

It's a barren wasteland between the ages of 13 and adult. My 14 year old is 5'10" - adult height but, like a lot of teenagers , he's all arms and legs and hasn't quite grown out like an adult. So adult clothes fit height wise but are too loose.

MrsSchnickelfritz · 18/11/2024 21:51

Yes we went into adult sizes at that age. New Look do a young adult/teen/tween type section as well. Might be worth looking there

APurpleSquirrel · 18/11/2024 21:58

Yeah my DD is 10 but 5ft & size 12-13 / 13-14. We've now had to start looking at adult sizes in both clothes & shoes.
New Look & H&M have teen ranges I believe.

Toomuchleopard · 18/11/2024 22:07

Some women’s shops go down to a size 4. I get my teen girls a lot from Hollister as it goes down to XXS which is a size 4.

leia24 · 18/11/2024 22:09

When mine outgrew kids sizes at about 12 she started wearing a size 6. Now aged almost 15 wears a size 8 as she's taller than me.

River Island used to do size 15-16 years, I'm not sure if they still do.
H&M definitely have a size 14+
Marks do up to age 16 but I think it's online only and they only stock to age 14 in store

ManyATrueWord · 18/11/2024 22:37

13-14 girls maps on to an adult size 10. 15-16 is a women's 12. Next do up to 16. I buy the petite items where I can because they are shorter in the limb.

For boys can I recommend Uniqlo. We did have DS1 in a ladies size 6 from there until recently when hurray he can keep a men’s’ XS up round his 26 inch waist (he’s about 5’8”). I agree that almost nobody seems to make trousers that fit tall, slim boys, the last two years were a nightmare…needed a boys age 14 leg length and an age 9 waist.

Singleandproud · 18/11/2024 22:59

Compare sizes larger teen sizes are the same as smaller adult sizes, if they are short go for petite, but Next older teen ranges are the same as size 10 and 12 so I'm surprised you can't find anything and they are cheaper than adult bits

New look up to age 15.

M&S up to age 16.

My daughter goes between a 12-13 and a woman's xs depending on the fit. She's small but has some curves now so the kids stuff doesn't always fit. We do really well in new look and H&M

BankHolidayReset · 20/11/2024 07:41

Thank you everyone. I'm off shopping tomorrow so will look at New Look and H&M

George asda have a lot in age 13-14. You can click and collect so most stores for free. I'd order early though as recently their deliveries have taken longer than expected - used to be really good.

New look up to age 15.

M&S up to age 16.

We have those m&s pj's. Buy sized up.... they come up quite small but also shrunk a bit. M&s quality for this sort of thing can be annoying - we have the same issue with branded school uniform from there. Dd is a size 11 but I wish I had got her the bigger size.
