..how do I politley tell her she needs a one piece and that she MUST NOT wear a bikini.

She is so excited.

Help me save her from looking like an extra on Benidorm. Please.

Cammelia - that comment about the 50+ model really saddens me. Do you not think it would be nice, at some point in a woman's life, for her to be able to wear what she wants on holiday and not feel she has to cover up simply because she's in her 60s??

Talk about misogynist.

Will FIL be advised not to buy swimming trunks?

Cammelia · 27/04/2008 21:46

Oh stop being silly Janni I'm 51

Janni · 27/04/2008 21:46

Right, this patronising bullshit has got to me. 'Caution an older woman' indeed. I think she has got EXACTLY the right idea. Go on holiday, buy something nice, enjoy herself, feel good.

But oh no, someone might thinks she's a little plump and god forbid that anyone sees a wrinkly tum.

Cammelia · 27/04/2008 21:48

I'm on the side of wanting her to wear what she wants. But I wouldn't buy a bikini if it was modelled by a 50+ woman. I like to think I'm buying a younger look. Its only in one's head, don't get upset.

Janni · 27/04/2008 21:53

OK I'm off now - sorry Cammelia

I'm 43. I'm slim, I have good skin. I haven't had the confidence to wear a bikini since I was 11.

Maybe, just maybe, by the time I'm 62 I'll get round to it. And God help anyone who tells me I'm too old

oxocube · 28/04/2008 07:18

My MIL is 61 and has a fabulous figure. She always wears bikinis and looks great

I am 42 and also wear bikinis to the pool and on holiday.

Beetroot · 28/04/2008 07:46

I am 45 and go naked if I can

loads of older women onthe bech with me tanned and fat/slim/puckered - it is a body and we are all different.

DrNortherner · 28/04/2008 09:31

OK, somewas has mentioned FIL and will I tell him not to wear trunks. There is no FIL. She is going on this cruise with a girlfriend to pull.

Maye she'll have more luck in a bikini? I just happen to think she'd look better in a one piece that's all.

My 57yo mum looks fabulous in a bikini - not one of those 'old lady' ones either. She has amazing skin, no stretch marks, no wrinkles, flat abs, pert tits ... make me absolutely sick

She's bought a cigerette holder for her lambert and butlers too, she thinks it looks classier when smoking around the pool.

Cammelia · 28/04/2008 12:56

She's going for the Lauren Bacall look then

contentiouscat · 28/04/2008 12:57

Yes but I think the problem is she wants the Op to go shopping with her...so do your lie and says she looks great or are you honest and steer her in the direction of tankinis & sarongs?

LOL at the cigarette holder.

DrNortherner · 28/04/2008 13:00

I can not bring myself to say she looks good in a bikini.

She is not shy though. Once her and I were driving to London when ds was a baby. In service staion we went to baby change to change his nappy, I was chatting to MIL whilst doing this and she hoiked her skirt up, sat on the loo and took a pee in front of me.

I was flabbergasted.

She also discusses her dry vag with me on a regular basis.

Cammelia · 28/04/2008 13:01

not good

contentiouscat · 28/04/2008 13:09

LOL I had friends who used to go in the loo together for a wee - I always thought it was a bit odd...apparently they liked the fact that they could chat in the loo.

Are you any good at telling fibs Northerner..If I thought she looked bad even if I did my VERY best supportive face I am afraid she would know I was lying.

Do you think she thinks the cruise will be like that old 70s Loveboat series - maybe she will come back with a rich white haired Dick Van Dyke look alike
