Black trouser suit (ish) for black tie event

Hello. I'm going to a smart dinner/dance thing. Black tie "suggested" (but not required). I have a nice-shaped black blazer and some wide slouchy black trousers, and together they look like a suit. But I've never actually worn them before like that. What top would go? I don't want to wear a shirt - not sure why, but I think it makes me look kind of boxy/top-heavy(?), because my boobs are too big. In case this is of relevance, I'm a size 10, with big boobs (waist 27ish, hips 38ish, bra size 32 E). In the past, I'd have worn vest/tight t-shirt, but I'm nearly 50 and feel that would be too revealing(?). Any ideas?

I have similar size boobs to you and I would wear a silk or satin shirt. I would have it open to a V as far as you dare. The V neckline makes boobs look smaller and the softer material will stop it from looking too boxy.

I agree with PPs, a v neck satin top would be my choice. A few options here:

I especially love the cami tops, although feel a bit funny about how much they reveal now my years are advancing a little. Perhaps I worry too much, though.

You could get away with a satin or velvet sort of tshirt OP, if you wanted sleeves/ a little more coverage.

In case anyone's still here, I'm back to ask another question...

Would a black waistcoat make the whole outfit too black?? Black trousers, jacket and waistcoat? Too funerial? Anything I could do to make it look less so? I've found a very nice black waistcoat, which looks like it could be good for my shape.

Also, at nearly 50, is a waistcoat without anything under it (apart from my bra, of course) OK if I take my jacket off? All the pictures of women in waistcoats alone are, of course, young and taut. My arms, whilst OK-ish, are not some great beauty....

A black jacket, waistcoat and trousers is an outfit. It looks exactly as it’s meant to look. If you change any of the component parts for a different colour you’ll look as if you don’t speak the outfit language fluently.

I can’t see a reason why you would need to remove your jacket, but if you do you can always wear it over your shoulders if that feels less exposed. You definitely don’t want another clothing element.
