Is a 25yo outfit unfashionable or stylish?

So what’s the difference between “retro” and “vintage “. Personally I would class the clothes I wore back in the 90’s/00’s that were trendy at the time as retro rather than vintage. I don’t really know why.

Retro to me means modern clothes in a vintage style, e.g. somewhere like LindyBop. That's just my interpretation though - could be wrong!

My point was that I wear those old things because they're comfortable and full of nice memories. I'm thinking more of the sorts of things you might wear to work, or to a dressy occasion.

In my understanding, vintage means original, so a vintage eighties dress would mean that it is actually from the eighties, whereas retro means in the style of. Don't forget, the eighties and nineties were thirty and forty plus years ago.
I still have a few bits and pieces l wore in the eighties, but I have also sold one and passed a couple of others on to charity shops, knowing that they could get a decent price for them. These were all Laura Ashley dresses and had been at the back of my wardrobe for decades. They were a vintage size 12 and Laura Ashley clothes were always known for being smaller than most shops' sizes, so they were more like a modern size 8-10. I recognised the unpalatable truth that my chances of ever being able to wear them again were somewhere between fat chance, slim chance and no chance whatsoever! Even if, by some miracle, I had ever been able to wear them again, they would no longer suit me as they were a style more suitable for twenty or thirty somethings and not someone in her fifties. I hope the person who now has them will enjoy the vintage look recreated for today. As for me, l will enjoy my vintage clothes that are more timeless and (hopefully) give a put-together look suitable for my age without giving the impression of trying too hard.

Yes, it's exactly this. Retro is something in the style of/imitative. Vintage just relates to age - it's vintage (if you like, the same as with wine)!
