Winter Birkenstocks - wear with what?

AngsanaFlower · 13/11/2024 13:08

I’d like a suede pair of Birkenstocks to wear this Autumn/Winter. The ones that are like mules. I’ll be wearing mostly with jeans.

What do I wear them with, i.e. not bare feet?

I ask as a few years ago on here I said I wore a pair with socks and I literally got my arse handed to me on a plate.

Definitely socks

Socks and 'stocks all the way. Even in the 'summer' here in Scotland

AngsanaFlower · 13/11/2024 13:41

Thx, what kind of socks? Just a plain pair ?

Students around me are wearing thick white socks with theirs.

Doggymummar · 13/11/2024 13:42

Ones that go with your outfit? Stripy spotty, sparkly etc

SamVimesFavouriteDragon · 13/11/2024 13:48

Depends on the look you're going for I guess! Lots of stuff on Pinterest and TikTok about wearing them with chunky knit socks - fairisle or patterned in some way. I like them like that, I know it's not for everybody!
Fatface did an advert for their 'dupes' of the Boston clog that went 'Elsie slippers and a quirky sock!' On repeat, while sharing lots of clips of the shoes with cute patterned socks as well.
If you wanted to be more neutral, those slightly thick, white 'athletics' style socks are in at the moment.
I think the socks and Birkenstocks vibe is a bit 'I dress for me and I don't care if you like it' 😂 and I love that!

Socks and ‘stocks is a student thing round here. If the young uns can do it…

unsync · 13/11/2024 14:02

Bostons? Get the sheepskin lined ones.

AngsanaFlower · 13/11/2024 14:14

When B’s first came out I wore them in winter and loved them. On here I said I wore them with socks and I literally got the shit ripped out of me by a poster.

Ever since I’ve never worn them with socks.

Glad to see the sliders and socks has spilled over to Birks.

I wear felt Birkenstocks with chunky wool socks round the house. The suede/sheepskin ones look good outside too. Bit cold without socks, surely?

LeopardsANeutral · 13/11/2024 14:28

I wear my Birkenstock Bostons with socks. Specifically they do a 5 pack of crew socks in Primark for about £3-£4 that are perfect. Loads of different colour options and they're the perfect length and thickness.

Lesson is not to take advice from such rude people!
I like the Cambridge Sock co. for lovely wool socks in great colours

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/11/2024 21:39

I wear knit socks from Pairs Scotland with Bostons - I have shearling ones as slippers, plus leather and suede pairs which are actual shoes.

Throughahedgebackwards · 13/11/2024 21:45

I'm clearly ahead of the curve when it comes to fashion (I'm really not) - was wearing Birkenstocks with (hand knitted colourful but quite lightweight) socks in the late 90s. Was even complimented on the look more than once.

quirkychick · 14/11/2024 08:39

Surely it's a pretty classic look?

You got the ‘shit ripped out of you’ by a poster on an anonymous board and it made you stop wearing them? Why? Wearing them with socks is very ‘in’ right now. You must be able to see other people wearing them? Don’t take the word of someone you can’t even see! Who knows what they wear or think looks good?! In fact there is a lot of scoffing from some Mumsnet users about following fashion trends.

In short…Wear what you like and have a look around you at what others are wearing if you want to follow fashion trends.
