Smart/casual outfit for a 14 year old girl - help!

Hi, My daughter is going to a school event and is supposed to 'look smart' but not wear uniform. The dress code is smart/casual and she is very much a jeans and hoodie girl. She is supremely uninterested in shopping. I'm happy to buy something but don't want to spend too much as I don't think it will get much wear. Any suggestions? She's about 5 ft 3in and around an adult size 10. Any idea of what kind of thing to look at or what shops to consider? Thank you!

My dd sounds similar and has had a couple of things she needs to look 'smarter' for.

She has got wide leg trousers and a fitted plain t shirt. Black obvs.

It's ok - it passes her way more fashion forwards sister's of 'would I be seen in the street with her' test but not so much that she is uncomfortable. She will brook no sight of skin either so whilst the t shirt is fitted, it is not cropped. And black trainers/high tops.

All from H&M. Probably cost less than 20 quid tbh and she's had to wear it a few times.

Her sisters idea of this is a skirt so short it literally had to go back because her knickers were on show. And a cropped jumper. And air force ones. Sigh.

Black tights, wool skirt (or fake wool) and plain black jumper looks smart

But you can find similar in supermarkets too

I have knee high boots but black ankle boots or lace ups work just as well

Thanks all! That's really helpful. I'm going to show here some of these looks and see what she goes for.

She could wear one of those wide legged suits with a kind of oversized jacket. Maybe in an interesting colour, with a fitted white shirt or plain tee. She could pair it with heels if she's that way inclined or just a brogue if she prefers a more androgynous look.
Maybe some statement jewellery, just costume obviously?
