Shoe aficionados - a little help, if you please.

The brief:

Summer shoes, comfortable for lots of walking, preferably wearable with socks (am not British/European, so that rules out sandals ), or comfortable and breathable enough to not need them.

Look ok with shorts and trousers.

We are off to Europe for 3 months in August, and packing space is seriously limited. Two pairs of shoes would be ideal, and I've already decided to take my big hiking boots. I have some birkenstocks, but don't find them comfortable for too many hours.

Thoughts?

Fit Flops!

I don't drive, and walk everywhere (a lot) with DD and really find these comfortable. However I am not in the least bit stylish or beautiful and probably have no business posting in this section !

not sure I'm a fit flop kinda gal plus, I have my birkis, and love them, but not for walking constantly all day.

Like those meep, but could you wear with socks? Or shorts, for that matter?
