I love this dress but is it 'too cheap'? Will it look like it came from a market stall?

or should I buy this slightly more expensive one, which I also like but I think it is more grown-up?

I find it hard to buy dresses as I'm short and usuallythe waist is where myhips are. But these two look like they MIGHT fit.

I prefer the lace one - if I had the legs for it!

poppy34 · 25/04/2008 20:19

I don't think either look cheap - its more about how they fit - can you not order both adn send the one back you don't like (its a bit difficult to tell unless you happen to know next/littlewoods are usually an ok fit).

the only thing I would say is littlewoods one is a lot shorter - no bad thing but is that the look you're going for?

OsmosisBanana · 25/04/2008 20:20

1st one better. esp over skinny jeans.

Fullmoonfiend · 25/04/2008 20:22

Are you young?
Think the littlewoods one would look dodgy on anyone over 25-30 tbh...
I speak as one who generally has a tatse for clothes not suitable for a 38-yr-old

Heated · 25/04/2008 20:23

No I don't think it will look cheap - I think you'd be happier if it came with a hefty pricetag {smile] - but it'll be all in the accessories/shoes.

How will you wear it, like the model?

Well I am not fat, but I'm not thin. I'm size ten/12 and only foot two. BUT, although it's really short on that model, it'd longer and more decent on my aged body!

Heated, yes I will put my finger in my mouth and put my knees together and look helpless! How else really?!?!?!

i prefer the plain black one

mazzystar · 25/04/2008 20:28

Its a pretty cut and pattern, but I think black polyester lace really might look cheap and nasty, especially if you want it for daywear. You could turn this into a virtue in a fucked-up sexy kind of way if you are cute and very young and slim, but if that's not the look you are after, I'd go for the next one.

ElizabethBeresfordSW19 · 25/04/2008 20:30

Fullmoon, I am closer to forty than to thirty.... Would you still say that was too old for the LW dress even if the length of the dress was just above the knee?

OP posts:
Fullmoonfiend · 25/04/2008 20:47

I dunno, I used to wear a lot of black lace in my biker/gothy days and now I see really ropey old hags wearing black lace in an attempt to look like sexee laydees and it makes me shudder.
I'm not suggesting you'd look like that for a second, and it is a nice dress but alarm bells are ringing.

ElizabethBeresfordSW19 · 25/04/2008 21:05

Hmmm! That's not the look I was going for.. Ropey old bag! I could pull that look together without buying new clothes I'm sure

it is the lace effect i have a problem with, it does look a bit tacky, the length and the shape and everything else is fine imo, but the lace puts me off
