‘Safe’ shade of Dior lip gloss for 50th gift?

ILookingLikeABeautifulDay · 31/10/2024 18:51

Evening all,
Coukd anyone recommend a shade of lipgloss they think would be a safe shade for a gift for a friend? It’s her 50th. She doesn’t wear much make up but does on occasion so maybe just something to add a bit of shine or shimmer? Maybe a bit of a pink hue but nothing with too much pigment.
Any recommendations would be really appreciated. Thank you!

If you’re not dead set on Dior, I can recommend Clinique almost lipstick in black honey

I have the Dior lip glow oil in Raspberry. Very inoffensive, barely any colour to it so it's just glossy. Smells minty which is nice.

Wisenotboring · 31/10/2024 19:06

Tbh, I'm not sure it is a good gift. Lots of people are extremely picky about their make-up (including me). I would outwardly be very thankful, but privately quite disappointed. There isn't a safe shade as we all have different preferences and colouring. Different brands also sit differently on people so a Dior gloss may not be right either. You sound thoughtful which is lovely, but I would steer towards something else.

@ILookingLikeABeautifulDay - if going for Dior - which I think is a lovely idea - you get free engraving on the lip gloss or lip oil:

https://www.dior.com/engb/beauty/products/dior-addict-lip-glow-Y0996214.html#pink-lilac

I think this shade is nice.

You also get free gift wrapping and two free samples.

I wish someone would get me one - what a thoughtful gift for a special birthday.

DancingNotDrowning · 31/10/2024 19:13

They’re all very innocuous once on the lips. Rosewood is my favourite but I also like raspberry, pink and poppy coral. They also have a clear.

I just had the engraving done on some oils for my DDs. You can’t see it well tbh but it’s a sweet idea

Jcee · 31/10/2024 19:13

What about the dior lip balm - I have this in pink and it's barely there and lovely. Also has the engraving offer www.dior.com/en_gb/beauty/products/dior-addict-lip-glow-Y0996214.html#pink-lilac

Safe shade for me would be the brightest red you can buy, 55

FrenchandSaunders · 31/10/2024 19:15

Disappointing that the ingraving is on the glass and not the metal top, can barely see it. Just bought one for my DD for Xmas.

Hercisback1 · 31/10/2024 19:16

If she doesn't wear much make up, does she actually want it?

LivingOnTheVeg · 31/10/2024 19:16

Not what you asked I know but they’re not an ethical company so if she doesn’t already wear Dior I’d avoid in case she’s against that sort of thing.

Hanjan51 · 31/10/2024 19:17

100% go for Dior Lip Glow... as a pp has linked. I've used it for years it's great. Have tried others and gone back to this.
The original "colour" one is number 001, it's not really any colour and really just enhances your natural lips - more of a balm! In times I've been really skint I didn't want to give this up so got my humour buy it for me for Xmas and then birthday.
Your friend should really love this, it's so inoffensive if you get the original one.

Thanks so much to you and everyone for their help! I said she does sometimes wear make up but not lots of it (I wear a full face every day for example-she doesn’t) so hopefully she’ll like it. She LOVES lip balm and applies it all the time so am vetting towards the lip glow! Am stuck between pink and rosewood hence me quoting you @DancingNotDrowning. How pigmented would you say rosewood is? I think she’d like that colour but just hoping it’s not too much?
Thanks again all! The engraving and gift wrapping are definitely a contributing factor to choosing Dior! 🤩

What lip balm does she normally use?

Nothing tinted, just Vaseline type stuff day to day, but she does wear colour on her lips when she wears make up for going out and at weekends etc so was wondering if the lip balm, knowing she loves it, with a bit of colour added, might be a nice option.

I'd be tempted to get her Rose Tinted Lip Balm | Burt's Bees UK
(Boots or Holland & Barrett). There are several colours, they are not expensive but they are good.

Better link. Lip | Burt's Bees UK. They are the ones in dark cases.

How does that work out, colour wise? I was looking at it (online) today

craftysnake · 31/10/2024 20:55

Fig. I’ve got this in the lip plumping one and everyone loves

craftysnake · 31/10/2024 20:56

The other option is to get the Clinique one that’s the light shade.

Rosewood isn’t very pigmented at all. I’m fair and it’s really just a hint of colour.

I’d definitely go with the glow not oil. The oil is sticky and whilst it gives you a hit of moisture it doesn’t offer the longer term hydration that I get from the glow.

even the dior addict lipsticks are pretty low pigment, much more like many other brands glosses.

Sorry, I meant the lighter shade, the pink honey one

Intense fig

It’s like lips but better

hold on. I’ll go put it on

LikeTalkingToLassie · 31/10/2024 20:59

Not tried the Almost Lipstick but the chubby stick one is lovely but disappears in seconds on me. Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm - Boots I think I'd give it 1 star. Packaging looks great, colour is great but almost zero staying power.

craftysnake · 31/10/2024 21:04

Bury your mind, I’ve just fallen asleep on the sofa,(before pic) and in the second picture I look a bit like sex chat, sorry LOL it’s great and it’s tingly so your lips feel like that me
