Best type of hairbrush for dry frizzy coloured shoulder-length hair..

My hair is such a pain at the moment and I need to find a good hairbrush that won't turn it into a mad fuzz. I have got a couple of the cheap ones with prongs on, but am wondering whether I should invest in a posh one? But don't want to waste money on one that will turn me into even more of a mad witch.

(Both previous and current DP have referred in passing to my 'mad' hair - this is not how I want to be!!!)

Btw I do condition and use Frizz-ease products etc etc plus spray on gloss etc so am making an effort - would just love to be able to brush it of a morning without having to spend hours repairing the damage

don't brush it . is it curly? mine is v curly, i comb the conditioner through when it's wet then stick loads of products on & sometimes diffuse it dry. there's a long recent thread on just this topic, i'll find it for you.

I compromised on a wide toothed comb. And then had all my hair chopped off

agreed-if curly/dry, the worst thing you can do is brush it.

i am enjoying waitrose deep conditioner.

how much did you chop moodlum? i snipped 5cm this week for tidiness/blunt ends.

Also agree, I either have to spend ages blow drying straight or leave to dry naturally well conditioned with mousse on. Thanks for the link Hoxtonchick.

Great thanks hoxtonchick, have skimmed through that. I see there are others who are loath to throw away hairbrush too..

thing is my hair is very fine, as well as dry and frizzy, and if I load it with post-wash products, it gets very lank and flat. Oh it's just a real pain! It used to be curly but is now more wavy, and always looks good when the hairdresser has a go at it with dryer and products. Maybe I should just fork out for a weekly blow dry?

I must try the curl cream and a wide tooth comb I think.

Well fishie I took about 6inches off? Its now just above my shoulders, but I think I want to lose another inch. It looks like I couldn't decide and tbh almost no-one has noticed (not that that was the point, but ykwim).

I am loving the Aveda shampoo that I got though, and the stuff you put on wet hair, does work on dry hair really well too.

It's good to know that not everybody has perfectly straightened highlighted WAG type hair - even though it seems like it when you go out shopping

saves you going to the hairdressers. I resisted buying one for ages as it doesn't look like it will do very much but it really works!

43 today my hair is really fine too. Use conditioning products on ends only . I too am waiting for frizz to be fashionable

new haircut sounds good m. and am happy you like the aveda stuff - it smells lush doesn't it.

it's ok. not worth £15 though. i did try a whole lot of different things at once, should try a controlled experiment!

My hair is long, thick, curly and frizzy. I gave up using brushes years ago and swear by frizzease curl controller gel and letting hair dry naturally.

Bigspender30 - I have shoulder length hair, and think I read on the reviews on amazon it doesn't work as well on longer hair.
It was recommended to me by a hairdresser.

Barking-tell me more!! What does it actually do? Does it help blow dry your hair straight?

Its a ceramic brush and dryer in one with 3 heat settings - I'm sure the blurb would give a much better sell! It gives you the salon look, very smooth hair, you can dry it poker straight, but my hair is wavy so I curl in under or over which is possible with the curve of the brush. I use the brush under each section of hair and gently pull it sideways horizontally (hope this makes sense!) so it gives it body as well as smooth finish. Its nothing to look at - I dismissed it at first as it looked so small, but I promise you it works.

I also saw it recommended in the Telegraph under a feature of how to save money during the credit crunch - along the lines of instead of going for your weekly blow dry try this!

not sure of the power and again looking at the size I worried it would take a lot of drying time but its very fast - hair is dry in 5 mins.

Also it doesn't damage my hair like straighteners do. I don't like my hair flat to my head anyway!
Hair feels very soft and lovely afterwards. Style lasts 2/3 days.
