Searching for trainers I can love

Hi all,

Anyone happen to know of exciting trainer brands? I'm trying to finally start dressing in a way that feels more me (at the age of 40).

I want to have a pair ( or two or three) of trainers that I love. I often like Nike trainers but am wanting something a bit different this time. Definitely no Vejas or New balance. Love the look of both but I've been put off by the flocks of yummy mummys wearing them at the school gates of every single trendy area. Just wanting something that I can love whether it's cool for others or not. So hard to find new or small brands.

I got some from Hush that have been brilliant for everyday walking/city break.

Might be worth seeing if brands like Fat Face etc. who do shoes in their lines might have some.

I love the Nero trainers, have a few pairs and so comfortable

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/nerogiardini-monogram-leather-lace-up-trainers/p112353498?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

White air max 90 but I might be a yummy mummy type

JustJazzy · 26/10/2024 14:06

I've ordered these for a/w, I'm far from a yummy mummy and can't stand the instahun look. I'm 42.

I also have Nike air max 90s with leopard print. Adidas SL 72s (red), gazelles(burgundy, black) sambas(black) and spezial(black, red, maroon)

On or Onitsuka Tiger depending on your preferred style?

greenrollneck · 26/10/2024 14:52

Depending on budgets golden goose, ash and gola, gola aren't pricey but are super comfy, and i don't see many people wearing them.

Saucony are stylish and comfortable

StressedEric · 26/10/2024 15:02

not very trendy but Superga has been my fall back trainer for years , great for wider feet like mine .

I've got these in a different colour. Love them but they took a while to break in!

I have the new balance 327 which are really comfy but needing replaced now.

downwindofyou · 27/10/2024 12:52

OP you have said you want something more 'you' but haven't really described what that looks like.

So you don't want what is on trend in mainstream fashion (NB/vejas)
But what do you aspire to?

Edgy?
Elegant?
Cool young street wear?

PickAChew · 27/10/2024 17:54

I love my On trainers but they're not very winter friendly.

KevinDeBrioche · 27/10/2024 18:01

Current favourites are axel arigato

headshoulderskneestoesheart · 27/10/2024 18:02

Esska - pricey but SO comfortable, and often available on Vinted (including new / as new condition)

mnahmnah · 27/10/2024 18:59

I love the look of Air and Grace

kkneat · 27/10/2024 19:26

brokenstone · 27/10/2024 19:41

Comefromaway · 27/10/2024 20:01

I wanted Veja’s bit o tried them on in various styles and they just were not right.

then I saw a pair of white trainers from All Saints and they are perfect.

I really love my Allbirds. So comfy, I can do 20k steps a day and not feel it. They do a wool version for winter/wet days and a lighter eucalyptus fibre version for summer, I love both

FountainofTruth · 27/10/2024 20:21

I'm loving my Puma speedcats right now, I have them in black and red, no good in the rain then I'll switch to leather converse hightops. Where I live its all addidas, new balance or uggs too.
