Colouring my hair

My hair is naturally almost black. I actually don’t think I suit black. It’s very harsh as my skin is pale. I am thinking of softening it a bit but I don’t want highlights as my roots will show as soon as my hair grows. I have no idea what to research online to try and find something I like. Any suggestions?

Definitely balayage, it doesn't matter then how much it grows out and you can probably get away with having it refreshed every 6-8 months. My hair is almost black and I have caramel balayage and love the look of it!
