winter footwear and rain coats for wide jeans

after so many years of wearing skinny jeans or jeggings, I'm really trying to update my wardrobe.

I've got these M&S wide jeans and have been wearing them with white adidas trainers but these are no good when it's raining and muddy, and I don't know what other shoes / footwear would go with the wide jeans.

Also what rain coat would you wear ? I don't drive so often walk everywhere and I'm so tempted just to revert back to my skinnies

For context I'm 48

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated- https://www.marksandspencer.com/high-waisted-wide-leg-jeans/p/clp60504942?intid=mobileappppdpshare

Honestly, I think they are for dry or sunny weather. I went to town yesterday and everyone was in skinnies with UGGS or DM type boots, including me. I won't be wearing mine till spring. I caveat thys with being 55 and not a fashionista.

If you want trainers, take a look at Allbirds wool trainers. They are water resistant.

I was looking at the M&S jeans ( there's a Sparks offer on mine) so many wide leg/carrot leg/horseshoe leg

After 10 minutes in rain they;d be soaked and heavy round the hem , ugh.

(I wear jeggings , no fashion kudos but they're comfy and no pesky zips )

I buy short length wide jeans and wear with my Josef Seibel boots - a bit like these ones:
Or Dr Martens would look good too - get the ones with a platform or a bit of a heel.

If you walk everywhere, skinnies are just so practical, so don't feel you can't wear them just because they're not on trend. I personally feel that skinnies have been 'out' long enough that wearing them now doesn't look like you're completely out of touch, just that you've made an active choice to wear them.

I think those jeans you own are easiest to wear with trainers. Unless you're naturally stylish, it might be hard to make boots work.

If you do want something a bit looser, maybe try jeans like these? https://www.marksandspencer.com/boyfriend-ankle-grazer-jeans-with-stretch/p/clp60485644?intid=mobileapppdpshare

A bit more cropped, so they work with chunky boots. Or go for bootlegs, if your footwear is smarter.

I keep my full length wide legs for dry days. I stopped wearing skinnies years ago so on wet days I stick to ankle length. I’ve got barrel leg, wide leg and skater baggy jeans that all work with either boots or trainers. I tend to wear Vans trainers in the rain as the sole is decently thick and comes over the toe slightly. If it’s really wet and I need to be outside a lot then it’s always boots and ankle jeans.
If it’s really wet I just wear a knee length raincoat. It looks a bit daft but I’d rather that than soaking thighs.

Longer wide leg trousers are great in summer but there's nothing worse than a damp hem, so I stick with shorter styles and chunky boots in winter.

I'm not at all fashionable, so maybe these are dreadful in fashionable eyes, but I've been wearing these jeans and cropped cords with calf length boots and a shorter length lightweight cashmere knit.

I've added links to the jumper I like (have three) and boots too. I can't quite get them to work with trainers.

I've been wearing a waist length waterproof, or a 3/4 length fitted wool coat (undone) , and they work okay.

I wear wide leg jeans that are slightly shorter with platform docs and long waterproof trench.

Cropped wide leg are good with my DM boots.I still wear long ones but have platform trainers and that helps.
