Has anyone bought this Olive dress?

If you have and you're a size 10-12 can you take a headless photo of you wearing it so I can see how it would fit?

I can't decide if this will be sympathetic to a mid-life body

Looks like a dressing gown, not even the model can pull it off, it's a definite no go.

KittyGetSmall · 18/10/2024 21:50

It looks like an oversized dressing gown

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 18/10/2024 21:53

Is this a serious post? It's absolutely hideous! 😖 Doesn't even look like a dress. Looks like a sackcloth. I wouldn't be seen dead in it!

Dinosaurlover · 18/10/2024 20:24

Ooh the perfect one for people wanting to look extra chunky in photos for weight loss medicine.

The look 3 stone heavier instantly dress 😂

OMG that gingham dress is hideous! 😆

Is someone taking the piss out of us all?! These outfits are vile.

unsync · 18/10/2024 22:30

I'm sure our dinner ladies wore similar when I was at primary school, possibly with a tabard over the top. Is that the look you were going for? It's a bold choice.

LieutenantJumboJr · 18/10/2024 22:37

I think it’s the worse dress I’ve ever seen on here and I’ve seen some corkers

I like that dress and the one the OP linked.

It's nowhere near the worst dress I've seen on here.

Not sure what a mid life body is but I like that a lot. It's interesting and would be very easy to wear.

CarpeVitam · 19/10/2024 00:48

It's hideous, sorry 🫣

Sayoonara · 19/10/2024 08:02

Strange dress, it's like it can't decide what it wants to be, a shirt dress or a wrap dress. And so fails at both.

Also, I doubt anyone will volunteer a pic of their 'mid-life body' for scrutiny and risk OP saying 'oh no, won't get it now I've seen your pic'.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 19/10/2024 09:09

Dazeandconfuse · 18/10/2024 19:44

Notwithstanding how unflattering that dress is, I'd avoid Olive altogether.

I bought a gingham skirt from there a few months ago - I think it was around £50 - and it looked like something an amateur would have run up on their sewing machine. No pattern matching across seams, unlined, no pockets, loose threads. It was trash. Shein with better marketing.

That's interesting. I like the look of their dresses.

There's nothing particulary strange about the one OP has picked. They're in the same ballpark as Toast, Colenimo, Plumo, Egg, Casey Casey, and the sort of stuff Envoy of Belfast or Dick's of Edinburgh sell but much, much cheaper.

All of those sites will have one or two pages of dresses but this site has 9 pages of dresses so I did wonder how a brand in this field could carry so much stock so cheaply.

TheOriginalFrench · 19/10/2024 09:29

I was also initially interested because it looked like a great dress - a much cheaper version of a

Lemaire twisted dress

The Olive version is 50% cotton, 50% polyester, which explains the low price. I actually like the easy shapes of their clothes - it’s just a shame that, despite lengthy essays on the site, they obviously are having to compromise hard on fabrics. Some of the knitwear is cute.

But I’m disappointed to hear @Dazeandconfuse‘s real life experience of the clothes. From a first look I’d hoped it might be a viable alternative to

Community Clothing

But instead it justifies the latter brand’s slightly stratospheric price rises.

There's other dresses which are similar to Lemaire. I had Olive marked as an alternative cheaper, albeit, less dramatic, version of the brands I listed, but I suspect it's cheap and they're not for a good reason.

TheKneesOfTheBees · 19/10/2024 09:43

I've got a blouse from Olive that I love, have worn loads, and seems good quality @TheOriginalFrench so don't discount them!

Viviennemary · 29/11/2024 09:08

I've seen worse. But I can't think it would be flattering on most people.

henlake7 · 29/11/2024 11:46

I just looked at it again and it made me think of Vera Wang!
So I think if you are an incredibly cool designer who is a size 6-8 then maybe you could make it look cool.
The rest of us will look like a bag of shite tied up in the middle!😅

TeeBee · 29/11/2024 12:01

Ooooh, a surgical gown in black!

levantine · 29/11/2024 12:41

I quite like it. I've never bought anything from Olive but assumed they kept their prices down by doing most stuff in one size only. Also lots of their clothes are very simple cuts

Rebootnecessary · 29/11/2024 13:02

I've got some knitwear from Olive that is lovely.

I actually think the dress in the OP would look better on a fuller, curvier body.

Polyp0 · 29/11/2024 13:05

Oh no! That Community Clothing website has photos of Patrick Grant looking like a scruffpot 🙁

LostittoBostik · 30/11/2024 15:17

Ok good to know that it's not going to be a race to buy this one - maybe it will come down in the sale 🤣

Thanks to those who commented with sensible remarks. I haven't bought from Olive before so i'll steer clear if it's just fancy Shein.

Shame as I really like this one AND the gingham one everyone hates too.

This stuff is exactly my style, but I would pair it all with heavy boots, mustard tights and extremely chunky specs and that's either your thing or not. Fine if not, but did quite so many people need to join in ? Loll

By mid life body I guess I meant "in forties, has birthed two children". I'm slim(ish) but I don't look like these models.

I love this look 🤷‍♀️

Let's just be happy that we don't all look the same all the time

eastcoasterly · 30/11/2024 15:25

The gingham one is better but that first one is just unflattering in every way. But as you say it's your taste and that's what matters most. I'll stick to dresses with defined waists and flared skirts- which I also realise isn't everyone's taste, though I can't see why not Wink
