What do you think of tights with trainers?

I want to wear a long skirt with black or white trainers but wouldn’t have bare legs at this time of year so what do you think of tights with trainers? Possibly black opaque tights or woolly tights?

There are examples on Pinterest of people in short skirts, black tights and white trainers but I think that’s for people younger than me!

Very difficult to pull off if you're not young. I think it works better if it's black or coloured trainers.

I don't see why not.. I would go with transparent tights but if black works with the skirt then why not!

piccolorhinoceros · 18/10/2024 09:33

I wear short skirts with black tights and trainers (the Nike Dunk Low Pandas are quite good for this), but don't wear it with a long skirt. It'll look a bit... tourist on a city break? What about either knee high boots (maybe a bit dressy), or ankle boots. I think even the ankle boots look better with bare legs or maybe sheer tights, but depending on this skirt black opaques would look fine.

StarlightLady · 18/10/2024 09:39

I think it works absolutely fine.

NuffSaidSam · 18/10/2024 09:43

I'd think you were commuting to work and planning to put shoes on when you got there. Neither positive or negative.

Doingmybest12 · 18/10/2024 09:48

It's fine as a practical option, will be more or less stylish depending on how you pull it off ie which trainers, which dress, how stylish you generally are.

StellaZine · 18/10/2024 09:55

I was a teenager in the late nineties/ early 2000s and have worn trainers with long skirts since back then (and have no intention of stopping). I think it’s a great casual look but it needs to be the right trainers and the right skirt, otherwise it will just look like you’re going to change into other shoes or you’ve injured yourself or something. Try it out, you’ll know straight away whether it looks right or not.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 18/10/2024 10:03

Yes. Saw several women wearing tights, opaque and black sheer. I don't wear trainers but if I did, I would wear tights.

Bare legs looks daft at this time of year. Bare legs and ankle boots, are worse.

No it isn't.

So as long as you are a little less comfortable later it’s OK?!?

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 18/10/2024 11:14

I'm 53 and wear trainers and black tights and a long skirt/ dress. I feel absolutely fine doing this. Bugger being cold.

YougoyourWay · 18/10/2024 12:20

I think I’ll try it out and see. I do have knee high boots and ankle boots but that’s a completely different look and maybe a bit dressy for day to day. But I don’t want to look like I’ve injured myself as a pp suggested!

It's ok either way. I'm pretty sure I didn't say it wasn't ok. Maybe have a re-read?

MaiAamWaliHun · 18/10/2024 15:14

It's totally fine. I must be clueless cos it never occured to me that it wouldnt be. It is clothes with shoes. I suppose tights with flip flops would be weird but in India socks have split toes to fit the flip flops so guess it depends where you live! In summary, it's fine.

Apologies if l came over wrongly; my fault. I was merely challenge the assumption that womens’ work shoes should not be comfy.

l’m very much a dress wearer (rarely wear trousers/jeans) for work and non-work, so l tend not to conform to stereotypes either.

piccolorhinoceros · 18/10/2024 17:48

Jesus, some people could start a fight in an empty house. Not sure how wearing a dress is non-conformist either?!

Anyway, back to the topic. I think it really does depend on the outfit, if you want to post pics OP it would be easier to comment.

girlwhowearsglasses · 18/10/2024 17:52

I think its fine but for this reason I always buy trainers with black or neutral coloured soles. Whites soles take it in another direction when you're in opaque tigths - can't explain why!

girlwhowearsglasses · 18/10/2024 17:53

And once got teased horrendously as a young woman for wearing black Red or Dead trainers with black tights and a mini skirt. Still think I looked great :-)

rubyslipperss · 18/10/2024 17:55

I wear legging type tights as I don't like how tights feel anyway and then socks and trainers - until it gets too cold for trainer socks then I just go to boots .

mewkins · 18/10/2024 18:12

It's all fine with either short or long skirts as are boots and tights.

TheBelleOfBelfastCity · 18/10/2024 18:13

Above the age of 10 it’s a no from me!

I wouldn’t start a fight anywhere. I often go out with girlfriends when l’m the only one in a dress though.

henlake7 · 18/10/2024 19:20

I think it looks fine, although low profile mostly black ones look better with black tights IMO.

I love wearing skirts and dresses in winter but I also walk alot so def need comfy shoes. I tend to go for black converse/tennis shoes or black leather trainers if it's bad weather.

Greyskybluesky · 18/10/2024 19:46

You could wear grey marl tights, they look great with trainers IMO

LyingPaintSample · 18/10/2024 20:51

I wore a black dress, black opaque tights and black leather trainers with white soles only yesterday. With a trench coat. I dgaf what people think lol, fashion rules aren't real. I'm currently wanting some leopard print trainers to wear with wool dresses and thick tights. I aim to please only myself (I don't think it's that extreme though, it's just comfy shoes and warm legs?)
