Wise hair people-which colouring option is less naughty

Have been growing my grey out and have freaked out and changed my mind. Just had quite a drastic cut which has got rid of any permanent ( browny) colour at the bottom. I now have white roots (3 inches) and a few inches of what has been multiple demi permanent colours over the last three years. I now know (after 6 months of washing the Demi from the majority of my hair length, that I couldn’t wash it out to the base grey, so have finally clicked that Demi isn’t really semi etc. and I know it causes some damage. I’ve decided that I want to stay dark blonde/brown for another few years and then I will give up the ghost.

Which do you think (or know) would cause my hair less damage of these two options - it’s curly, coarse and naturally v frizzy and dry so condition is really hard to keep.

I also want to do it at home for multiple reasons. Thought about grey blending and so on but not for me just yet.

  1. Bite the bullet after 3 years of not using permanent…put a permanent on my new bob. I can then top the roots up every 6 or so weeks (root sprays work fine from 3-6 weeks due to curls). I moved away from any permanent colours as know they’re knackering for hair, but I figure I’ll only be putting it on any part of the hair once (well twice as the first root top up will overlap a little). Previously (and have no idea why) I used to put it all over every time so prob not the best.
  2. Same brand and colour but in demi permanent. Benefit of this I thought was condition but I know now that they still damage hair. Thing is if I do exactly the same as above - just touch up roots every 6 weeks, the main part of the hair does fade over time (although in my case seemingly not that much after months and months, albeit it is more faded and a little orangey now) so I would have to colour the whole hair maybe 4 times a year with the Demi to keep the depth up (but not every 6 weeks)
So….. that’s a long and boring way of asking is once/twice over any part of the hair EVER with permanent better than multiple demis over the same part of the hair…? I’ve got a bob so would imagine over the course of the hair growth it would get a full Demi cover perhaps 12 times over say three years!?)

thank you…
