If you have curly hair

Do you have one side that just behaves differently to the other?

I have ringletty curly hair (which I love) but one side is always smoother than the other and hangs slightly differently. Nobody can tell except me but it's quite frustrating as I don't do anything different when shampooing, styling, etc.

My right side, it never ever styles the same, and if I straighten it will always frizz up first. I put it down to it being the side I sleep on so the hair gets more wear and tear.

Yes! The left side is always different, don't know why. I've tried styling that side first thinking perhaps that was the reason. Styling from a flip under and over position, same result.

I've given up now. with a it does what it wants attitude and just hope it it looks OK.

Not the same but similar: my cute ringlets have turned into menopausal frizzy waves. Whenever I have the hairdresser style my curls back in, my right side loses the curl much more quickly, often on the way home

Eugh. I feel this. I have curls and they never behave the same way one day to the next.

quirkychick · 13/10/2024 12:44

Since peri-menopause and stopping dyeing my curl pattern has changed. Some parts (the whiter sections) curl less. I no longer worry about it, as no one else notices.

Cookerhood · 13/10/2024 12:47

Yes, I presume it's the side I sleep.on, plus the curly pattern differs all over anyway. Since going to a curly hairdresser it's made a big difference though, as they cut to the curl pattern not as if you have straight hair.

Thanks for the solidarity 😁 and yes, the side I sleep on is the less 'finished' side. I've tried a silk pillowcase but it didn't make any difference, I'll just ignore it as if everyone else can't tell, why should I?!

No one except me has ever been able to notice a difference in my curls day to day. To me it's glaring but not to everyone else.

Yep! A curly hair specialist works wonders. I go to Unruly Curls in Farringdon.

melissasummerfield · 13/10/2024 15:16

Yep, same here, the side that i sleep on 😭

Aparecium · 13/10/2024 17:44

The side I sleep on is the side that develops loose ringlets. The curls on other side just go any which way. Maybe I should try to sleep on the other side more, to try and encourage ringlets on both sides!

My left is more easily controlled than my right
