DPs best friend and wife have invited me for dinner.

I've met the wife once when she gave us a lift and I've been to the pub a few times with the friend.

It's the first time I've been invited to any of his friends houses

I want to make a good impression - partially because they're DPs friends but I know they're also friends with the ex wife so feel like I'm obviously going to compared to her

Jeans, boots, nice top. Chunky knit over top. Covers all bases. :)

be yourself xx

Or a dress. And the boots. Don’t over think it though. You’re you and that’s good enough.

I would go with jeans and nice but not too formal silk shirt. I wouldn't go dressy to someone's house for dinner, but I would make a bit of effort.

Chunky boots, bootleg jeans and a nice top or chunky boots, tights and a long sleeved dress.

I've seen this in Vinted. Black tights and boots? I've got some black Chelsea type boots?

I'd definitely go with jeans that suit your body shape and a decent quality jumper (probably fine knit if it's in a home as don't want to get too hot)
Leather knee length boots to finish.
The dress is nice enough though.

I'm a size 20 with a tummy - what style of jeans would work?

It sounds silly but I wear uniform for work so I don't really shop for clothes much

That dress would be great with opaque tights and ballet flats or knee boots.

Be comfortable! In someone else’s house you don’t know if you’ll be perched on kitchen stools for drinks, or sunk into a squashy sofa for nibbles. The dress and boots sound perfect for any option. Don’t go slinky or stilettos in case their house is freezing/noisy floors (or they’ve a shoe-free rule 😬)
