Mid 40s clubbing outfit HELP!

I love a good night out but it’s been a long time since I’ve been to a proper club night. But I’ve been invited to one in a few weeks time in a big warehouse type set up and have NO idea what to wear.

I’d say most people wear trainers these days (thank god) but beyond that I’m lost. I’m short so not sure how I feel with trainers and a short skirt as heels would have been my go to and while I want to be comfy I don’t want to be stumpy. I’m a size 8 and want to look effortlessly cool without looking like mutton dressed as lamb 😂

Any ideas?

Trainers with Jumpsuit/ jeans and vest?
How on earth would a size 8 person look stumpy? 🙄

Ancientclubber · 12/10/2024 14:08

I guess I’m paranoid about being short 😂. I thought jeans but wasn’t sure if I needed to go more dressy…

Have you asked the people you're going with what they're wearing? I'm a bit younger than you but still haven't been clubbing in years, so I don't really know and honestly I'm not sure MN is really the best place to ask! But last time I went out to a bar most women seemed to be wearing vest tops, generally cropped, with combat trousers (or cargo pants as they seem to be called now). Think Sporty Spice but more glam.

Don't wear a jumpsuit. Club toilets are disgusting, you don't want the top half trailing about.

piccolorhinoceros · 12/10/2024 14:33

Actually, slip skirt and t-shirt? Or slip dress over a white t-shirt? With trainers. That'll probably work, glam but casual.

SingingSands · 12/10/2024 14:37

I've been to lots of these and honestly - wear what is comfortable! I usually wear a stretchy Zara knee length dress, jumpsuits, or a gold pleated maxi skirt with a funky tshirt.

This was me last time - with space buns (hair up as I get sweaty!) and some sparkly green eyeshadow.

Hope you have a great night!

This is lovely - what did you have on your feet?! I think it’s the whole trainers thing that’s throwing me 😄

I looove the dress with trainers look! Pro tip I learned from the teenagers: wear Nike Pros (or similar) underneath to avoid flashing!

Oh wow the pink is stunning and I love it with the shoes. I guess I’m used to having the confidence of heels but hadn’t thought of coordinating colours like that. It looks stunning!

Click on the pick to enlarge and you can see my conserve trainers 😊

I'd also say it varies by club. I'm older than you but we do venture out into the night however I'm more likely to be wearing a mid thigh length skirt, top and doc martens but my preference is rock music. I've been to a few themed club nights including Ibiza themed and wore summer dress and docs

If it's somewhere like drumsheds it's cold! Leggings and trainers and nice top but bring a coat or jumper you could wear indoors too

Ancientclubber · 12/10/2024 21:45

Thats exactly where it is! I didn’t know the name of the place. Oh god so now I have to think of something warm too 😂. Jeans?!

Layers - if you're going to dance and it will get hot and busy! As a pp suggested a vest top and combats with a hoody/cardigan is a good shout.

I still go clubbing a lot (late 40s) and rarely see anyone dressed up these days - it's all jeans and trainers!

Lack of height and proportions. . I'm 5'3 and a size 8 and I can easily look stumpy.

You have the body of a teenager!!

Drumsheds is not glam. And yes is cold especially outside which is the main non music area. Lots of jeans and small tops/t shirts, but if you do want to go glam you’d be fine, it’s massively diverse in ages/styles. And fun!

TBH it wasn’t intentional! My friend gave me the trainers as they were too tight for her and they just so happen to match my favourite dress to perfection!

I was at a wedding night do tonight so had to wear heels and they were fine to dance in but I couldn’t jump around like a mad woman like usual 😂.

I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or not 😂.

Snap; I’m going to an event at Drunsheds next month too! I’m 50. Was planning on wearing this dress with chunky DM boots but now I’m wondering if it’s too glam?

I'm also going to Drumsheds (fatboy slim?!)

I've been to a few events but still have no idea what to wear! Thankfully there are lockers so I can shove my big coat in 😆

What did you decide on wearing? X

Rollergirl11 · 21/11/2024 18:21

We went 2 weeks ago to see The Chemical Brothers and had absolute blast! Ended up going with a satin midi skirt, a boxy waist length tshirt and trainers. I was happy with what I was wearing and felt like I got the balance right of casual whilst still being a bit dressy. Honestly there is no need to worry as it’s such a diverse crowd. You really won’t stick out whatever you wear. And those lockers are a godsend! It was pretty chilly to begin with but the X room was sweltering by the end of the night.

Hope you have a great night! Fatboy Slim will be lots of fun!
