I got taken along by an advertisment for Phillip Kingsley shampoo / conditioner which was £72 & £52 . Been using for several weeks now and it's made not an iota of a difference to my hair which used to have £3 / £4 spent on it .
What did you buy thats no better than the cheaper stuff ?

For all the essence mascara fans, if you’re abroad any time soon it’s readily available in most European countries.

in terms of swaps, I was using Aldi Lacura night cream but someone gave me a John Lewis gift voucher so I decided to splash out and buy some Clarins instead. It was nowhere near as good as the Aldi stuff so I used the Clarins jar up then went straight back to what I had been using.

I have used every expensive shampoo brand that I am stupid enough to think is going to be my miracle product, when, in fact, the brand that is best for my hair is Pantene. Smooth and Sleek. Always.

isthismylifenow · 12/10/2024 10:33

For those who like Essence products, Catrice is the sister company. Also very good basics. I have just bought the lip balm, I don't know what it compares to, but it's fantastic stuff.

Essence / Catrice eye pencils, the retractable ones are the very best for tightlining.

But I am disappointed in my Lululemon leggings. They give me the worst camel toe ever. Gutted as they are comfy but look terrible. Back to wearing my old faithful Cotton On ones which I was trying to replace.

Is it the lash princess one? Essence is the brand, You can get it on Amazon

I much prefer cheap mascara - never gone wrong with no 7, maybelline or collection lash surge

Try the Call me Queen mascara, it's the newer one.

According to my dd, it's better than Lash Princess.

My only issue is that they don't seem to do much brown. Only black or blackest black.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. I used it for years, loved it. Bought a Boots No7 tinted moisturiser when I realised I'd forgotten to pack it for a weekend away and have never gone back. Honestly I don't know what they put in it but my highly sensitive skin loves it. Have to mix two shades on occasion (not a huge range) but it's no biggie.

Is this the No7 tinted moisturiser?

Bin bags!!
I get the £1 ones from Tesco and there as good as the expensive ones.

Oh I have to disagree... When I treat myself to the expensive ones especially designed for my equally expensive bin it's bliss!

honeyfox · 12/10/2024 23:58

I've tried lots from cheap to expensive brands, more expensive does not mean better.

I love Rimmel and Catrice. The only expensive products I would not part from are Estee Lauder Double Wear and Pureology shampoo and conditioner. Oh and Maison Martin Margiela Beach Walk perfume for summer and Hypnotic Poison in the winter.

Which Boots cream is this please?

I’m one of those Tret didn’t work for. Shredded wheat skin with no benefits whatsoever. Yuk. Doesn’t mean it’s over rated I suppose, but everyone always shouts about it from the rooftops on here.

I am so sorry for my delayed reply but it's this one. It's out of stock online but I've bought it many times in store.

I was seduced in a weak moment by the WOW hair products adverts. They’re crap and defo not better or worth the money.

They won haircare awards in womens mags like GH, So i bought the Color WOW shampoo. Its ok but i still prefer my go to........... Loreal Elvive Color Protect.

Can you?
You've just saved my make up game!
Thank you

Also get it on notino.co.uk

Just discovered this website recently. It's great :-) the range also do some essence online but more choice on notino.

Lavenderblossoms · 13/10/2024 00:06

Also the best concealer I've used and still use is the long lasting perfection concealer from collection. Especially if you have dry/ combination skin like me. Full coverage/ matte products do not work on my skin.

It has won awards in the past too. Also their eyebrow tinted mascara is the shit.

Letsdoit123 · 13/10/2024 00:15

I swapped my Dermalogica face moisturiser and Spf cream both costing £100+ with Sanctuary Spa wih spf for £15, and I actually feel my dry skin better than before.

Have you tried the perfume parlour dupe of Beach Walk? I struggle to tell the difference with the original! Haven't tried the Hypnotic Poison dupe because I rarely wear it (although I adore it) and one bottle has lasted me for years!!

I was just thinking this last night - a brand new Space NK has opened up with brands I have lusted after for a while but never seen in person. Had a good play with Westman Atelier cream blush and lipsticks and also some Lisa Eldridge products. They felt and looked no different to my NYX or Revolution products. And £45 for a blush! Even the Westman Atelier concealer which has cult following felt very thin and watery - didn’t feel very moisturising.

As I was walking round saw eye watering priced skincare - Tatcha, AB etc. Flip the ingredient list over and there is nothing different in there to the ordinary or my Korean skincare. Yes the packaging is nice but is it £150 for a moisturiser nice?!

I had a play with a Oaui hair oil - rubbed some in to my hair (which is very thick and curly so can take a play with!) and it made it feel crunchy??! Hair oil should not make hair feel crunchy!

I do like browsing these kind of stores as it’s all very indulgent but I would never actually open my purse - aside from maybe Aromatherapy Associates Deep Bath oil which will always have my heart and I have never found a dupe for it - if anyone knows of a dupe, please tell me!

I have seen their bath oil in TK Maxx!

honeyfox · 13/10/2024 13:12

@itsnothingoriginal thanks, will look into that!

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 13/10/2024 20:15

If you paid £72 for Philip Kingsley you must have bought one of the professional-sized 1-litre bottles.

All their products work really well for me, and the elastizer makes an incredible difference to the condition of your hair

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 13/10/2024 20:26

I used to buy expensive Laura Mercier blusher but have recently discovered Elf - a fraction of the price and really versatile (I use it on my eyes as well).

The one luxury product I wouldn't be without is L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil. A beautiful product that smells fantastic and leaves your skin feeling moisturised. And if you buy it from L'Occitane you get free samples of other products.

HermioneWeasley · 13/10/2024 20:35

I’ve discovered W7 make up - currently liking their liquid blusher and bronzer

kiko eyeliners every bit as good as the ludicrously expensive Victoria Beckham ones

Hyacinthandrichard · 13/10/2024 20:38

@Doublebubblegum which mascara do you favour?

Costco bin bags are the best.

Mascara. The best mascara is Maybelline costing me £7 - sooooo much better than all the premium brand mascaras I've ever tried (Clinique, Estée Lauder, Lancome, etc etc)

i agree ,same for me.

JenniferBooth · 13/10/2024 21:27

There was one premium mascara that i liked. The Rodial Glam O Lash one. They used to give it away free with Red quite a bit which is how i got the ones i had.

FortunataTagnips · 13/10/2024 21:41

I’ve used Philip Kingsley Remoisturising shampoo and conditioner for years. Every so often, I try to switch to something cheaper but my hair just looks and feels so much better with it that I end up going back.

Softdressesandblouses · 13/10/2024 21:59

Chanel nail polishes. Absolute rubbish - poor coverage and consistency. Any other brand is better.
