Lightweight long sleeve body or base layer to wear under wool

Youngatheart00 · 07/10/2024 23:25

I find various wools irritate my skin and obviously it isn’t too hygienic to wear direct to skin either given I try and wash them sparingly so they last.

Can anyone recommend a good bodysuit range, ideally, or long tuckable top that will help me look forward to jumper season?!

lightweight important as peri meno means I run very hot 🥵

thanks all

Uniqlo Heatec are what I am wearing as a base layer under my woolly jumpers

Thanks @Britpopbaby , I hear good things about uniqlo so I will pop in next time I’m in London.

Have a look at Patra or Lands End silk thermals. They keep you cool if you are too hot, but are finely knit, so keep wool out.

I second Uniqlo heat tech, I live in them

Uniqlo Heattech are mostly polyester so will be v hot (hence 'thermal') so I wouldn't call them lightweight!

OP my go-to for precisely this is Primark. They sell long-sleeved tops with various neck styles, many of the colours are 100% cotton (but check the labels as some colours are a poly/cotton mix). £4 a pop.

They're very long in the body. They probably do bodysuits too, now I think of it - I don't wear those so haven't particularly noticed.

Thanks for the recommendations. It may be I get a couple of options as a warm base layer will be useful also - just prob not for under cashmere / woolly jumpers as I just know I will melt!

Heattech will make you warm just so you know, it does its "heat" job very well. I'd think you might be a bit warm in that plus a woolly jumper until the temperature drops a bit more.

I don't have any suggestions for alternatives though aside from finding something 100% cotton.

(I do love heattech tho but you said you run hot at the moment!)

KirstenBlest · 09/10/2024 09:04

The Patra ones aren't warm but might be OK under a wool jumper.
M& S and Uniqlo are warm but not natural fibres.

I wear a silk base layer under my itchy jumpers. Nice and light. I get mine from Amazon (Jasmine Silk range).

I wear Uniqlo heatech for this but if you're generally warm I'd look at the Uniqlo Airism range instead. Thin base layer tops which are meant to stay cool.
