Hair dye disaster - please help!

I have natural brown hair and today I decided to dye it, just to bring out its natural colour as it had gone a bit dull. Well, now it is jet black! Not that I have anything against black hair but its just not me and its made me look so pale that I look ill! DH took one look at it and said "oh my god". Does anybody have any tips on how to make it fade quicker or preferably to wash out altogether?!

you can get something to strip the colour out (if it's a semi) but bad for your hair (i think).

Was it a permanent dye or a 12 wash type thing?

MinkyBorage · 22/04/2008 19:28

if you decide you want to lighten it, I would definitely recommend getting professional to do it

Give it another 2 washes, black fades out really quickly especially if its a 12 wash thing.

Think I was once told to shampoo it but not rinse, and leave it as long as I oculd, then rinse.

My (ex!)hairdresser did this to me once. My hair came out black not dark brown. She told me to use Head and Shoulders to wash it and to leave the shampoo on for as long as possible (say an hour) . It is supposed to help fade the dye. Have to say i did this for 3 days, and it had no effect so i had to go back and have it re coloured. Hope it works for you.

Thankyou everyone for your tips. Its just a temporary colour so hopefully it will be gone before long! I think its meant to last 6 weeks!

Is it Head and Shoulders shampoo which is supposed to strip hair dye quicker than other shampoos? Good luck - I've had loads of disasters in the past but have now resorted to hairdressers for colour once every 3 months! Just wasn't worth the anguish to do it at home

I have heard that any anti dandruff shampoo is supposed to strip hair dye out of hair but not sure how true this is.

janmoomoo · 22/04/2008 20:49

It will fade a bit after a few washes anyway, its always a bit intense when first done. Head and Shoulders did used to strip the colour out of my red hair but unfortunately for janjas they have bought out a new one which is kind to colour etc. How inconsiderate! Still worth trying tho I reckon.

My hairdresser once reccomended washing hair with fairy liquid after a home dye disaster.
