new formulations on favourite old products

urgh, it's so frustrating. I've been using max factor 2000 calorie mascara for decades as my go to brilliant mascara which doesn't smudge. Lately though it's quite watery and smudges all over the place. Same with Rimmel eyebrow mascara: too watery and feels different to before. Why do they change the formulation of products? And can anyone recommend a really good non smudge mascara for less than £20?

They've done it with Facefinity compact too 😢

why do they do this? I can only assume to save money if they've got a tried and tested product
of many years which works well and sells well.

I use Tarte cosmetics mascara. Multipack on QVC costs £35 for 4. It's lovely.
