Right honeestly now ladies - I am considering having a full leg and bikini wax in preparation for impending summer - is it REALLY painful?

Lower leg definitely not painful ( never had thighs done). However, bikini wax is agony the first time but does get slightly less painful thereafter. It is a good idea to take some paracetamol beforehand to dull the pain. Also, make sure you have some aloe gel to smother the sore areas when you get home and overnight.

Twiglett · 22/04/2008 17:46

honestly yes

and then you get ingrowing hairs and it's itchy when it grows back .. which for me unfortunately is in less than 2 weeks

SoMuchToBits · 22/04/2008 17:47

Lower leg not painful - just tingles a bit. Never had bikini wax, so can't advise on that.

Jazzicatz · 22/04/2008 17:47

Oh - I have been using hair removal cream but have to re-do every week. Might stick to it - ingrowing hairs ewwwww

I find the ankles agony, definitely take ibuprofen or paracetemol 20 minutes before hand

Jazzicatz · 22/04/2008 18:00

I used to get the lower legs done - and whilst it wasn't the most pleasant of pains it was manageable. Is the bikini line worse than that????

Waxing is, imo, totally over-rated. It stings, it's expensive, the regrowth is quick and ugly and you have to wait too long between waxes (for hair to grow long enough to re-wax).

The full leg wax includes bikini line at the salon I used to go to.

or use VEET for the bikini and shave the legs!

I can honestly, hand on heart, say that I would rather give birth naturally than have my bikini line waxed again!

From 1-10 the pain is 12-15....pure agony!!

I now veet and shave and am much happier!

Jazzicatz · 22/04/2008 18:24

Ok am suitably put off - will continue with veet. Thanks ladies.

absolute agony and half my hairs snapped rather than being pulled out, waste of time.

Agree with collision would rather give birth again on gas & air alone than even try a bikini wax

ladytophamhatt · 22/04/2008 18:27

bikini line was fine for me, ok it wasn't a wlak in the park but it wasn't agony either.

If you're thining of getting your armpts waxed then thats when I'd say NO F*CKING WAY because that really does hurt.

expatinscotland · 22/04/2008 18:27

i truly didn't and still don't find it painful.

i guess because i'm a yetti and all i could think of is smooth, hair-free skin.

some people are more prone to ingrown hairs than others.

but exfoliate before you go and don't use any tanning products for about 24 hours afterwards.

invest in TendSkin for when you do get ingrowing hairs.

i only rarely go to salons these days - i do it all myself at home and i don't wait for much regrowth at all.

it just whips right off when it hasn't grown out too much.

Jazzicatz · 22/04/2008 18:28

I do have a high pain threshold but don't want to do it if it is REALLy painful!

expatinscotland · 22/04/2008 18:30

i'd get a word of mouth recommendation for a waxer. a good tech makes all the difference, IME.

Jazzicatz · 22/04/2008 18:31

Thats a good idea expat - will do some investigating.

frootloop · 22/04/2008 19:51

i trained in beauty therapy and to avoid ingrown hairs don't wear tights or tight trousers or tight synthetic knickers for 24 hours after having it done, and exfoliate really well. and having been waxed to death during my training i can definitly say it doesn't get less painful the more you do it
