Tights keep rolling down...

Autumn has arrived and I've dug out my tights again, standard opaque work tights from M&S. Every now and again, they gently and depressingly roll down my tummy as they try to work their way off my legs.

Are more expensive brands less prone to this? I would pay more to stop this, but I don't want to pay loads only for the same thing to keep happening. I also don't want to wear two pairs of knickers and sandwich my tights between them, which was the advice I found when I googled this...

I'm going out there and saying I have recently taken to wearing maternity tights despite not being pregnant because then they fit me on the legs perfectly but don't roll down at the top. Still seem to make me look slimmer but I don't feel like I'm stuffed in sausage casing 😂

I was just going to say the same when I saw your post.
I’m not pregnant ,I’m short with a round tummy .
I got myself some maternity tights. I think they were primark .
They have 2 seams at the front and one at the back.
Best things I ever got . No rolling down .

I’ve just been on the Snag website and I can’t find any of the issues people have posted. They don’t even seem to sell period pants!! There are some bigger women on there, but other than that they look like regular models from other tights/underwear websites. Well, actually they look like normal, everyday women! Am on on the wrong website?

socks1107 · 03/10/2024 15:49

I'm tempted to buy some m and s tights. Just deciding what size! It's a minefield tbh

As I recall, at one point a couple of years ago they were very much TWAW and used trans models in somewhat fetishistic outfits (dressed as cartoony little girls for example).

They have changed their imagery back to women since then, funnily enough at the same time as GC views have become more widespread and vocal.

Basically a bunch of bandwagon jumpers.

i can highly recommend a brand called Better Tights - great quality and a ton of colours and patterns if that’s your thing. Had exactly the same issues with M&S and other expensive brands but these are great.

I found better tights dreadful. They were rolled up in the middle and I got a refund in the end.
Tights are such a personal thing I'm learning. Think I'll try the velvet touch ones in marks and maybe size up?!

I buy snag a lot too and have never seen anything offensive on their website!
They're worth the money for me.

Sizing up doesn't work if you're on the shorter side, they just wrinkle up on the knees and ankles.

Maternity tights are a good shout too

Poggishairtufts · 03/10/2024 16:17

Falke stay put for me

Cannot understand the love for Snag. They are vile. They feel horrible.

Better Tights are super sturdy and stay put all day for me.

I agree.
I bought a pair last christmas which looked lovely on the website, black covered in lots of gold stars.

They came and the stars were just stickers like the gold stars you get at school for doing good homework. Genuinely. Peeling off and made the material of the tights pull in odd directions when they were on.
They didn't roll down though tbf.

I just wear two pairs of knickers.

Superhero knickers! I've had this advice before but the prospect of knickers, tights, knickers seems a bit oppressive and adds another layer of faff to going to the loo. Thanks though

I've never tried Snag or Heist. Heist look good, I like the look of the waistband but they are expensive. I've always been a bit wary of buying from online only brands for some reason...is the material nice enough to justify the cost?

go up a size (or 2)
really helps with the fit.

I'm quite short...I think I'd be getting baggy wrinkles if I sized up too much. Maybe I just need to look for tights with a high waistband.

Thanks for all the responses!

Exactly! My thoughts entirely. Add to that and the bulk, l’d probably forget l’m wearing 2 pairs of knix, go for a wee and wet myself.

As l said upthread (and got thanks for it), Autograph tights, with a realistically sized cotton gusset and no knickers is the way to go. Comfy, stay put, practical and they go in the wash after one wear anyway.

socks1107 · 04/10/2024 12:19

I bought the autograph ones based on this chat yesterday.
I tried them on and they were really comfy, I sizes up and so far first impressions are positive. Hope I've found my go to tights!

Rosemarypots · 04/10/2024 13:57

There's an elastic belt on Amazon that comes in various colours, with silicone on the back for grip. It has a flat plastic fastening clasp. I hitch my tights up, put the belt on over them, and then the tights don't move.

What’s wrong with their marketing? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an advert from them
edit: just seen the other comments about them using trans models. Good for them!

minipie · 04/10/2024 15:07

Puddingcakes it was more this kind of imagery from Snag that people had an issue with

Tights keep rolling down...

Don’t suppose anyone could give a brief summary of the Snag advertising issue?

(I have an ad blocker so haven’t seen anything that might have appeared on MN or elsewhere. And obviously don’t want to google and find whatever it is following me around the Internet in any form for all eternity.)

Snag use a wide range of models, including men and trans individuals, for their advertising.
