Can you help me identify this jumper/sweater

Hi Everyone!
I have 2 of these lovely warm sweaters. They are unbranded, and are what i believe to be "fishermans knit". there is no manufacturer information in either, other than this label. I would love to get a couple more, but i do not know where they came from (both were gifts).
Where I live (South Lincolnshire), we did used to have an army navy stores sort of place, and also a once thriving? weekday/saturday market.
I'm in a bit of a conundrum as i don't really know how or where to seek any help in being able to identify/locate where these sweaters may have come from.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Daz

A picture would help

Malvala · 02/10/2024 07:57

I’m assuming a picture or two are on the way but in the meantime could they be Aran jumpers?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 02/10/2024 10:18

Picture? Aran jumpers are often referred to as fisherman's jumpers.

Dazmasterflash · 02/10/2024 11:39

Hi Everyone,
Im soooo Sorry, i thought i had added a picture of the label of the jumper.
This is all thats in it, no manufacturer information or anything.
Apologies again

That would be sooo easy to knit. Do you have any knitter friends?

Fuckitydoodah · 02/10/2024 11:56

I don't know where yours came from, but look at Finesterre website for chunky knitwear. Although, it's quite pricey.

Sadly i do not, i had contemplated learning myself to knit, but i don't have a clue where to start with needle sizes and stiff like that...
ive had a look at a few YT tutorial videos, but haven't got much further...

I feel I've literally seen this everywhere, it's so bog standard. I'm pretty sure I've seen this in Primark. Maybe not same quality but this style is everywhere. I have been to m &s and have seen similar ones I'm sure.

I feel like this is the sort of thing we used to buy in army and navy surplus stores when I was younger. It was practically a uniform for 6th form students, along with the canvas bags you could get from there too.

Yes! Absolutely this! i suspect thats exactly where mine came from, however having been back to my old army navy shop, they had no idea, however its now run by different people....

Go to a wool shop and ask the person behind the till.

You need a pattern for a jumper made in fisherman's rib. The pattern will tell you what wool and needles to buy.

It's not a beginner stitch, but not difficult to pick up.

If you can find a knit and matter / stitch and bitch group near you the ladies there would be delighted to help - and might even offer to knit the jumper for you if you bought the wool.

Knitters are lovely and very helpful.

Hi @Dazmasterflash . I've been trying to copy the page for you but my phone is playing up - go to the website for Edinburgh Woollen Mill, then under the men's section look at knitwear. You should be able to sort by price, there's a brand called PG Field, and have a look at the "Fisherman Crew Neck Jumper". It's £30 and there's a variety of colours. I can't actually get my phone to click on it properly but it might be a pretty good match.

I think you'd also get a discount for signing up to the website.

Ty I shall take a looksie.
I'm hoping to buy another, or find another like those I already have as well.
I've even considered learning myself to knit to make one. Desperate times and all that😏😂

Looks like a Woolovers one to me. DH got one a couple of years ago

KirstenBlest · 02/10/2024 20:47

Easy peasy to knit one, so learn. Fisherman’s Rib Sweater | Knitting Patterns | Let's Knit Magazine (letsknit.co.uk)

I'd try army shops or agricultural/workwear shops. You need some wool in the yarn.

If you are knitting one, get into a knitting group or have a keen knitter at hand to advise.

KirstenBlest · 02/10/2024 20:54

Search results for: 'fisherman jumper' | EWM
They are all acrylic, but a wool-mix one will be much warmer.
