Would you buy these boots for DC?

I'm trying to find DD some new boots. The past few years she's lived in kids DM's but they don't make her size any more and none of the adult ones have zips on the side (plus they're far more expensive!).

They need to be hard wearing, she's outside a lot, in rain, mud and trees. Occasionally plays football. Would this kind of boot be totally destroyed by a child?

I'm also finding it difficult to find flat ones like children's boots, they all seem to have some sort of heel built in. What brands should I be looking for.

They look like suede to me so would be destroyed very quickly. Have you looked somewhere like decathalon for some outdoorsy boot/shoes?

friskybivalves · 30/09/2024 07:49

What size is she?

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2024 07:54

They don't look like they'd be waterproof.

For the activities you describe wouldn't waterproof trainers/walking shoes be much more suitable? Mountain warehouse usually has a range at not too extortionate prices.

DeliciousApples · 30/09/2024 08:13

I'd go for leather if you're not vegetarian/vegan as it's got better waterproofing qualities yet remains breathable.

Dressedilemma · 30/09/2024 14:12

She has goretex trainers but prefers boots when it's cold. She also needs a smart pair of shoes for concerts so the boots always worked well.

Have you checked out Geox? I got my 12yo daughter some side zip boots last year. I think I picked them up online l from La Redoute. She's an adult size 6 but they were from the kids section.

Dressedilemma · 30/09/2024 14:48

She's a 41.5 or a 42

@JoanThursday geox women's are too expensive when I don't know if she's stopped growing.

Definitely not suede if you're wanting them waterproof and hard wearing. These would be destroyed so quickly. What's your budget?

Singleandproud · 30/09/2024 15:29

DD has some leather, fleece lined, waterproof converse they were £££ but can be found in clearance for cheaper as they are an older style. I think La redoute had them in last week as I was going to buy DD another pair but they weren't in her size.

Wow she must be tall!

I was going to suggest looking at the slightly imperfect sections of the Schuh and Office websites. They often have eg Geox boots with money off when they only have very small marks on them from being on display.

Someone linked these on here last week - would they work - DM like with zip and cheaper?!? (And some funky colours depending on what she's into!)

cannaethink · 30/09/2024 16:01

I know you’ve said the adult DMs are more expensive but if you were to find a bargain you can get zip inserts that lace in.

Maybe something like this

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/09/2024 18:15

You've virtually described my DD(13 next month)- she also plays concerts and a bit of playground football, and has the same size feet.

She's got These lace up/zip up boots from M&S. They have proven their waterproofness this week!

Dressedilemma · 30/09/2024 19:18

@friskybivalves no, she's really short! But we are hoping she will grow soon...

I don't want to get her fleece lined ones as she will also need to wear them in the summer for concerts. If it's cold she wears slightly thicker socks.

Will show her some of these suggestions.

I am sure she will grow soon. How old is she?

www.schuh.co.uk/ex-display/mens-schuh-damian-brogue-boots/3235236020/1000762841/

Is she an 8 in UK sizes? Would she wear something like the ones above?

Or a Chelsea boot:
www.schuh.co.uk/ex-display/mens-h-by-hudson-colton-chelsea-boots/3232397020/1000750805/

They say men's but they're unisex really. Although are her feet v narrow?

Have a look on La Redoute, theyalways have discounts on Geox

Dressedilemma · 30/09/2024 19:34

She's 12. And has very narrow feet. I'm not sure a Chelsea boot would stay on her, she did try that style a couple of years ago. That's why I'm looking for a lace-up with a zip. The kids DM's she had last year were laced so the two sides practically met!

I have Reikers lace ups (and a zipped chelsea boot style ) I don;t wear leather by choice .... they aren;t particularly warm but I double layer my socks in winter

Blarn · 30/09/2024 19:44

Try hush puppies their senior girls sizes go quite high.

We are having this problem with dd1, she is nearly 10 and has just gone into a 5. Managed to get her some geox school boots in the sale!

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 30/09/2024 19:47

Have you tried rocket dog? They have good sales and their boots are so comfy
