Online purchases that don't look like the real thing

Bought some jewellery from a fairly well known online retailer recently and when it arrived it didn't look anywhere near as good as the photo. I say well known, I've known of them for as long as I can remember and I see them advertised often.

How come jewellery in particular never looks like the advertising images?

Does anyone have any horror stories on online purchases that have gone wrong?

I've learnt my lesson now and won't buy jewellery online again without seeing it first. 😂

I was thinking the same a few days ago , they always look extra sparkling in the photos and a bit dull and lifeless in real life

I think the best way to compare it is like when you see the huge billboard adverts for McDonald's that photo looks nothing like what you get .

Mine wasn't so much the sparkle but the detail in the design. It just didn't look like the advert, some of the gold plating was missing and the metal was quite tarnished. The bit where the stones where actually looked dirty. Have tried to add image but not sure if it's attached.

I never thought of it being like a McDonald's advert though, but at least that would taste the same regardless of how it looked. 😂

Just feels really disheartening.
