100% Waterproof and very warm coat for kids

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for a very warm (quilted/ fleece lined) coat that is also waterproof. Budget around £40. Looking on Vinted too.

Our school walk is 25 mins and we live on the coast, so winters here can be windy and very chilly.

I’ve looked at the usual brands but prefer to go for a brand that’s been tried and tested!

Thank you.

M&S do a 3 in 1 coat that I get for my DD - not sure what age it goes up to (she's only 5) but I think it's brilliant - waterproof, she never complains she's chilly. Only downside is no pockets. It's got an inner puffer coat you can remove when it's more mild so you have a decent rain coat for autumn/spring.

DeepBlueSeas · 27/09/2024 13:43

@Jxtina86 thank you - I’ve just looked on M&S, the heart one is lovely and looks warm, good reviews too, not bad for £36!

Muddle puddles ski jackets. There’s always loads on Vinted. Lovely and warm, and fully waterproof too.

TellerTuesday · 27/09/2024 14:06

The M&S Stormwear ones are fantastic quality for the price

Jemimapuddleduk · 27/09/2024 15:06

Look at Boden or fat face, amazing winter coats and waterproof too. I size up and get 2 years out of them for ds.

JumpinJellyfish · 27/09/2024 15:40

The Polarn o pyret ones with the fleeces that can popper inside. I’ve bought them new but also third hand on eBay and they’ve lasted through my 2 kids. The shop will repair them for you even if you didn’t buy new!

Meadowfinch · 27/09/2024 16:03

I always bought my ds ski jackets with fleece linings, snow skirts and waterproof seams.

Just as good in the wet and in the cold.

MothBat · 27/09/2024 16:09

The Lands End ones are warm and waterproof. May be over budget unless in a sale or second hand.

Poisonwood · 27/09/2024 16:16

Didriksons are superb, look for secondhand. We always use them - Highlands weather here!

ChickpeaPie · 27/09/2024 16:21

Trespass coats are warm and waterproof and always cheaper brand new on ebay

dontcallmelen · 27/09/2024 16:42

M&S Boden & next all do waterproof warm coats, usually around the £40.00 mark Boden a more expensive usually a discount code floating about though.

Greenfingersorangetoes · 27/09/2024 17:59

Trespass coats are great and fit your budget.

DeepBlueSeas · 27/09/2024 19:19

@FamilyAreEverything @ChickpeaPie @dontcallmelen @Greenfingersorangetoes @Poisonwood @Meadowfinch @JumpinJellyfish @TellerTuesday @MothBat Thank you everyone for the helpful suggestions. Now the kids are in bed, I’m going to window shop online. Already favoured a few on vinted.
Have a lovely weekend all.

Seconded. Ours is on its third year (it was, ahm, very big when we bought it) and worth every penny.

Have a look in vinted for handmade softshell coats with a warm lining.

They are always described as showerproof but they are completely waterproof, we've never had one leak through 2 kids and multiple coats. The outside is much thicker than pvc and if you get one lined with fleece then your kid will be cosier than if they were wearing jammies.

I have no vested interest in this listing but this is the sort of thing.

I just bought DD a lovely one from a company called Wet Wednesdays. It was reduced to £35.

Galaxyinmypocket · 27/09/2024 21:32

Trespass. Really good quality and fit, good value for money

AngeloMysterioso · 27/09/2024 22:28

I got DS a Cannonball 3 in1 coat from Mountain Warehouse, we’ve had some
torrential downpours on the way to and from school and he’s been perfectly warm and dry… prior to that he had a 3 in 1 Splish Splash coat from Jojo Maman Bebe which was also lovely.

herownworstenemy · 28/09/2024 14:35

Mine wear Samurai navigators, they wear them year round & snuggle in them like duvets as do some of their friends. Even worn with shorts & flip flops in summer, those coats get a lot of use. At their old school it was a part of the branded uniform and my DC loved them so much they stuck with them. Pricey so I had to buy with plenty of growing room to make them earn their keep, but almost 4 years in they still look like new despite the hammering they get. Practical, easy to wash & quick drying. Not a desirable teen fashion brand though, it's the sort of jacket worn by a rugby coach on a cold wet day.

evtheria · 28/09/2024 15:36

We have had and been pleased with:
Muddy Puddles*
Lands End*
Toastie (though back when the inner jacket was down-filled)
Didriksons

We walk to and from school, about 20-30' in the north of England.

*Often do substantial sales if wanting to buy new from them

MissRainbowBrite · 28/09/2024 16:17

Sadly, Lands End have stopped doing kids clothes but well worth a look on Vinted.
Othe brands to look at are Boden, M&S, Frugi, JoJo Maman and Hatley.

SuperSange · 28/09/2024 17:11

Muddy puddles ski jackets. You'll be able to resell it for what you bought it for from Vinted. They're amazing.
