Recommendations for a super lightweight underseat bag.

I'm looking for an underseat bag for travelling with ryannair.i ordered a little rucksack one off amazon, and although it was nicely designed, I don't like carrying a rucksack, plus one strap broke straightaway and it had a bit of weight before I even put anything in. I have ordered another over the shoulder bag and it's lovely but again quite heavy, just wondered if anyone can recommend anything a bit lighter.

And if it's stylish, that's a bonus.

Longchamp Le Pliage

SoupDragon · 26/09/2024 15:36

I bought a MiaTui bag this year for hand luggage which I'm really happy with. They give the weight of the bags on the website which is useful.

Budget?
Longchamp- £100ish
Cheap from Amazon travel fold up bag -£6ish

If style is your main factor just pay for an overhead bag, get yourself a nice little 4-wheel cabin bag, and just pop your favourite handbag under the seat. Much less effort at the airport and you can whizz about easily without rumpling your clothes with a shoulder strap.
I used to use a Le Pliage tote but it is just a little too long in the base for the aisle seats (which have a smaller space underneath) so one corner always stuck out or got squashed.

Somewhere in between probably up to £50.

We visit our holiday home regularly and I don't take a handbag only an underseat bag.

That's the style I'm looking for but something that will last a few years

@Imtoooldforallthis tbf you don't find them I looked for ages as I like to have something practical, that does it's job well. We've had that one four years I've think, and it looks exactly the same as when new ( my longchamp does not) and my partner is not remotely careful with it. I looked at so many options and that one won
Actually I tell a lie, I picked up a nylon barrel bag for £3 in a charity shop that's fab but i can give you a link as it was s random find

When it turns up you will think "what is that?!" But honestly I'm pretty surprised at it , it does get reached for most

Precisely at that price your not going to be worried about it, they are thin and light be pretty robust

I never understand the love for Mia Tui bags on MN. They look like vastly over priced PU bags. Plastic looking fake leather you'd find in a market in Brighton.

Thistooshallpass24 · 26/09/2024 18:39

@angstypant agree, see also Strathberry ( looks like Primark trying to be fancy) and Demellier reminds me of Margaret Thatcher Mumsnet lives for them

I've never understood the love for the Longchamp Le Pliage but I manage not to be rude to those who do.

The MiaTui bag I bought is a good size, practical and well organised.

Suzuki70 · 26/09/2024 19:19

40x20x25 is the Ryanair size (45x36x20 for easyJet) so you have be so careful - some of the Le Pliages are too big when full. I haven't flown Ryanair recently but for the sake of the odd flight I'd also go cheapo Amazon. For other more generous airlines I have better ones!

needahandholdpls · 26/09/2024 19:56

Cabin Max Travel Hack Travel Bags
Are great and their website tells you what airlines each size is suitable for. Can also be purchased on Amazon.

needahandholdpls · 26/09/2024 19:57

Should add that the one I got was the correct size for Ryanair!

Fjorduk · 26/09/2024 20:27

I use a Olend bag for cabine, it's light, holds a lot of stuff and very comfortable to carry

unsync · 26/09/2024 19:45

This is ideal, I'll see how I get on with the cheap one, but this is definitely the next one I'll try.
