Ankle Jeans - winter shoes

whatever1980 · 23/09/2024 07:35

I've been wearing Levi Ribcage ankle jeans most of summer and want to continue to wear in winter.

What winter shoes would be practical but on trend to wear with these in winter please? I'm mid 40s so nothing too clumpy or super trendy.

I have trainers but want something slightly smarter to wear

Thanks

I watched a YouTube video which included a section on what shoes to wear with different jeans / trousers. Apparently, with the jeans you’ve pictured, you should wear a boot that has an elasticated or fitted top bit so it fits snugly to your ankle.

For smart and weather appropriate I really think the only option is a pointed slim ankle boot with a low block heel.
For a still nice nut more casual look go for dark trainers, a nice maroon leather. Something similar to the maroon sambas.

cannaethink · 23/09/2024 08:29

I agree with pp that if it’s boots they need to fit close to your ankle. Also they need to be taller than the hem so your jeans sit over the boots.
I wear chunky chelsea boots these from a couple of years ago, there’s loads similar in various levels of chunkiness. Or docs.

Thanks all - I hadn't considered boots or that if I got some how they should sit - interesting!

I have grey sambas (would like maroon also)

You don’t wear boots - at all?

Mind boggled!

Lovelynames123 · 23/09/2024 10:37

These are my winter boots, also have the tan Chelsea boot version, wear them with jeans like yours, and with dresses and tights (am mid 40s, my dds have approved!)

I'm mid 40s so nothing too clumpy or super trendy.

I was going to say Grensons too 😊 I’d wear Chelsea boots that wear fairly neat at the ankle like a PP said - I have Grenson Milly. Or Grenson lace up boots (I have Nanettes from years ago but there are loads of options) or Lanx Whalley lace ups. I prefer the jeans to be wider than the boots and end just about where the boots start (can always roll the jeans up).

But there are loads of similar styles depending on budget etc.

£355. Let’s be honest, that’s beyond the wallet of most folk. Lovely boots though.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 23/09/2024 12:09

Which are you referring to, @Leniriefenstahl ?

Britpopbaby · 23/09/2024 13:56

@whatever1980 Chelsea boots like those another poster put a link to.

Poggishairtufts · 23/09/2024 15:36

Shame you're about 2 weeks late for some half price Grenson boots, they do great sales if you hang on til the very end. I splashed out this year and I'm looking forward to wearing them soon. I have a pair of Grenson brogues that are about 7 years old, I take them to get reheeled/resoled and the cobbler always remarks that they're good shoes.
I appreciate they're quite an initial outlay but don't think you'd have to replace them in a hurry.

Vicliz24 · 23/09/2024 15:40

Yes Chelsea boots will work fine

lemonlavendar · 23/09/2024 15:41

Look at Vinted, there are some Grenson boots on there.

lemonlavendar · 23/09/2024 15:43

To add, I've just received some Merry People boots today. Got the magenta and navy mix. They look pretty smart which I wasn't expecting.
I'm mid 60's...

Thanks - some great suggestions here thanks

Brain fog - I wear boots with some other cropped jeans I have which are a slimmer fit than these Levi's but hadn't considered boys with these ones.

Chunky loafers and trendy socks.

GenAvocadoOnToast · 23/09/2024 18:06

Lace-up or chelsea ankle boots. I have multiple pairs of these

Ribcage jeans are my absolute favourite.

I've just come out of a Melbourne winter wearing them with either cheap (M&S I think) versions of the lace up Grenson boots above, or Converse high tops.

hby9628 · 23/09/2024 20:23

I have a pair of these and i absolutely love them. Still going strong into my 3rd winter

Moanycowbag · 23/09/2024 20:37

I would go brogues or loafers, I have some silver brogues that I wear with cropped trousers and jeans

What is the sizing like for Grenson boots please? I'm sort of in between sizes so I have to size up for Clarks for example but down for Birkenstocks and Skechers. Thanks

Poggishairtufts · 24/09/2024 16:42

@talkingdeadscot I'm a big 8 and I'd say they're a slightly generous fit. I don't mean size down, just that if you sometimes find a size a little snug you should be ok
